I Was Supposed to Be Giving Love Advice on the School Radio, but Before I Knew It, the Beautiful Girls at School Were Hitting on Me

On the same day, a little earlier than after school… Class ended early, and it was time for the last homeroom.

During the break, the noisy class heard the door open with a clatter.

“Okay, let’s start the last homeroom.”

Everyone slowly turned toward the blackboard at the teacher’s usual listless remark.

“Today…um, we’re having a meeting to decide what our class will do for the cultural festival. Just decide quickly and let me know. Then, the committee members will take care of the rest.”

The homeroom teacher said briefly and quickly sat down on the chair next to the blackboard. In turn, the male and female class committee members stood in front of the class.

“So, we’d like to take a survey to decide what to do. We’ll hand out paper, so please write down one idea each.”

With that, small pieces of copy paper were passed around. …Come to think of it, I think I was told to think about it beforehand…but I hadn’t thought about anything because of the cultural festival incident.

“Hmm, a vote… What should we do?”

“How about a maid café? Let’s do a maid café !”

“Are you serious? Then we’ll make the boys wear maid uniforms.”

“I guess a haunted house is a safe bet, right? I wanna try it !”

It’s the cultural festival, and since it’s a class performance, everyone is excited. But everyone is just chatting while holding the paper, and no one is reaching for a pen. …Well, that’s how it goes, I guess.

“Hey, what about you, Kitahara….”

I glance sideways, but my words trail off.

(Scratch, scratch, scratch…)

While everyone else was barely concentrating, Kitahara was furiously writing something on her paper. She seemed to notice my gaze and glanced over at me for a moment.

“What’s wrong, Kageyama kun? You look like you saw a ghost.”

“No, I was just surprised to see Kitahara concentrating so hard…”

As I spoke haltingly, Kitahara gave me a smug look and narrowed her eyes.

“Of course ! I decided to actively participate in the cultural festival. So I’m giving my all to the class performance.”

Kitahara’s attitude was as if to say, “Of course.” But I could only stare at her in astonishment, and Kitahara gave me a sullen look.

“What, is it weird that I’m working hard for the cultural festival?”

“…Are you Swamp Man?”

“…You might want to say ‘you’ve changed,’ but that’s the worst way to put it.”

Kitahara looked dissatisfied, but she didn’t even know aboutexecutive committee, and now she’s showing this much enthusiasm. It’s like she’s been struck by lightning after being thrown into a swamp.

As I tilted my head in confusion, Kitahara puffed out her cheeks.

“First of all, you said that was better…”

“Huh, did I say something?”

“Nothing !”

She said it briefly and turned her face away. …Hmm, did I step on a landmine or something…women’s hearts are difficult to understand.

However, I couldn’t think of any good ideas either. The class seems to be in disarray, and it’s becoming doubtful whether we’ll be able to decide today…

Just as I was feeling anxious, the class president, who had lost her patience, played her last card.

“Write it down in two minutes, or else we’ll use the city’s historical exhibition as the display.”

[ [!?] ]

In an instant, the class fell silent, and everyone frantically began writing on their notepads. …I don’t mind the exhibition, though. It’ll go over well with the higher-ups.

From there on, things went very smoothly. Ideas were gathered at a good pace, and after all the proposals were written on the blackboard, the duplicates were erased. Additionally, those that seemed unlikely to be realized were gently erased.

This process was repeated several times, and in the end, three proposals remained.

• Maid Café

• Scholar Café

• Chinese Café

“…Does our class really want to drink tea no matter what?”

It was a class with an insatiable desire for tea. I looked over at Kitahara to seek her agreement, but she seemed restless.

“I-I think so. It’s surprising that they’re all cafés.”

“…Did something happen?”

“N-nothing in particular?”

I don’t think there’s anything unusual about her, but the class continues without noticing her abnormality.

“What is a scholar cafe anyway? I kind of understand the other two, but…”

A boy with a loud voice in class raises his hand and asks a question. A scholar is someone who wears a kimono, like in old novels, right?

Indeed, I can’t really picture it.

“Well, it’s just a guess, but.”

But the one who answered was an unexpected person…the homeroom teacher, who had been sitting silently in his chair the whole time.

“I think it’s a cafe where people wearing scholar-style clothing, like hakama and coats, serve customers. Apparently, there are places like that.”

We all exclaimed in surprise at the knowledgeable teacher’s explanation. Among us, a female student who had quickly taken out her smartphone spoke up.

“W-what did you say ! Sounds cool !”

At her words, everyone else also took out their smartphones.

“Oh, I’ve seen this outfit in a manga !”

“The girls’ outfits are super cute too !”

“The costumes might actually work…”

Everyone was chatting excitedly, but unlike before, they were all facing the same direction. Realizing this, the class president took a deep breath and began to gather the class together.

“So, shall we go with the ‘Scholar Café’ for our class performance? Those in favor, please raise your hands.”

Except for a few students who were part of the ‘maid outfit’ or ‘Chinese dress’ extremist group, everyone else raised their hands. Of course, I was in favor too.

It seemed like it was going to be decided smoothly, but the person next to me didn’t raise their hand. They were staring at the blackboard, frozen in place. Their face seemed a bit pale.

“Kitahara, don’t you like this kind of thing? That’s surprising.”

“No, it’s not that…”

“Oh, maybe you actually like Chinese dresses?”

Everyone has their own tastes. Even if Kitahara likes that kind of thing, I would never deny it… But Kitahara would probably glare at me.

“No way ! Those…indecent clothes !”

“Indecent…”

Some of the boys had suffered irreparable damage from that. What an ungentlemanly attitude, how rude.

“Well, since the majority seems to agree, I think our class’s performance will be at the Scholar Café.”

With the exception of one person, the whole class burst into applause. Just then, a buzzing sound came from my phone. It was a call from the president. Oh, right, we’re supposed to work together today.

“Well, I think we’ll wrap up the class project planning for now. However, I’d like the person who came up with the idea to stay behind for a bit and tell us what kind of image they had in mind.”

“Huh?”

“Wait, who came up with this idea? Their taste is amazing !”

“Huh?”

This is….. This is bad. Because homeroom went over, it’s going to be a close call whether I can make it in time…should I tell them it’ll be cutting it close?

“Kageyama kun…”

“Wait a second, Kitahara, I’m replying right now.”

“I’m not in the mood for this right now !”

“True, but I’d like you to be the leader so we can share ideas.”

“Huh?”

The black-haired girl next to me is making a commotion, but I’m busy with my message right now. I don’t have time to pay attention to her. After typing out an apology message, I glance over at Kitahara.

“K-Kageyama kun…”

“…What’s wrong, Kitahara? You’re trembling like a newborn fawn.”

Kitahara looks around nervously with trembling eyes. Then she leaned her face close to mine and whispered in a voice so soft no one else could hear.

“…I was the one who suggested the Scholar Cafe…”

“…Wow.”

Kitahara, who didn’t even know about the cultural festival until just a moment ago, as leader…?

“Well…..I’m glad you’re interested in the cultural festival.”

“~~~~~~!”

Kitahara glared at me and let out a silent scream. However, her expression seemed to suggest that she had given up and accepted everything.

“Hey, Kageyama-kun, what should I do !?”

“I-I wonder….”

Kitahara was more flustered than I had ever seen her before. Before long, homreoom ended, and the class began to disperse.

“Well, I have some work to do for the executive committee…”

“Eh?”

“If it gets really bad, give me a call !”

“Wait, Kageyama kun…”

Leaving Kitahara clinging to me, I exited the classroom. This is also a trial to strengthen Kitahara’s communication skills…! Bowing to Kitahara in my heart, I left the classroom.

Right, I need to contact the president to let her know I can go now…

“Hey, Kageyama.”

Just then, I heard someone calling my name. Turning toward the voice, I saw a girl fidgeting with her hair, looking a bit lost.

“…Shirahama.”

Had she been waiting in the hallway after leaving the classroom early? When I called her name, she raised her gaze slightly and looked at me with a slightly upward glance.

“…Kageyama, do you have time now? I wanna talk to you about something.”

Her voice was as arrogant as ever, but there was a hint of timidity in it. Five minutes ago, I would have ignored her and kept walking. But…

“I have work to do after this, so if you can be quick…”

I have work to do with the president after this, so ignoring her here would leave a bad taste in my mouth. To calm my restless heart, I decided to accept her invitation.
