(Kiiing-kooon-kaaan-kooon)

“Alright then, pass your tests back to me for collection!”

When the bell rang, the proctor said this, and everyone, including me, started passing back their answer sheets.

Today was Friday, the final day of the test period, and this was the last test.

As for my personal performance, well, it went pretty well.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t understand, and I managed to solve even the tough application problems properly.

I reviewed everything thoroughly, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t make any careless mistakes, so I should be able to aim for a perfect score.

“Not bad…”

After the test ended and everyone started leaving, I muttered that to myself. Miku, who had been sitting next to me during the test, said,

“Pretty good, huh…”

“What’s up?”

“Nothing really. Just thought, ‘Pretty good? You probably got full marks anyway.’”

Miku looked a little annoyed… but it didn’t feel like she was being sarcastic.

I wondered if she’d changed a bit, maybe lost that competitive streak? But it seems that competitive side is still there after all.

“How did you do, Miku?”

“I… well. I think I did really well. Since Seito helped me this time, I’m confident.”

“Then you could aim for a perfect score too, right?”

Honestly, with Miku’s brain and her daily grind, I think it’s possible.

“I’m not sure. I gave it my all, but there were a few really tough questions.”

“Still, glad your hard work paid off.”

“Yeah… But even if it’s impossible this time, I’m always aiming for first place. So you better buckle down, Seito. I know I can do it.”

“Of course I will.”

As we were talking, Saki arrived too.

“Good work, you two.”

“Good work.”

“Good work, Saki. How did it go?”

“Probably my best performance so far? Though I know I’m nowhere near your level.”

“Comparing yourself to Seito is ridiculous, never mind me.”

“To me, you two are both incredible.”

“Well, if you feel confident, then your studying paid off, right? That’s great.”

“Yeah! It’s all thanks to you two teaching me.”

“That’s great… But seriously, is he okay?”

When I said that, they both looked in the direction I was staring.

“Um… Yeah. I guess he’s fine?”

“Yeah. he’s fine.”

The one I was worried about was Nanashima.

Ever since the day of the test, he’d looked sleepy every day, and after the test ended, he’d staggered home.

“Did something happen?”

“Well, yeah. he said right before the test he absolutely had to avoid failing, so he cut back on sleep to study.”

I see… So he’s sleep-deprived and just wants to crash as soon as he gets home?

But if he wasn’t completely neglecting his studies, maybe it’s not so bad. Though, if that’s the case, he should’ve studied regularly anyway.

“I see.”

“But I’m not sure I agree with that reason…”

“Well, you’re right about that…”

When I said that, the two of them looked at me with a slightly exasperated expression.

“Was there a reason?”

“Yes. The day before the test, both Saki and I got messages from Him. he asked us to tutor him…”

“The day before?”

“Yeah. Of course we told him we couldn’t because we were studying with Kana-chan.”

“But he insisted no matter what. When we asked why so suddenly, he said if he failed, he has to do remedial classes, and apparently that clashed with the first day of a big event in the game everyone’s playing right now…”

“Tsubasa-kun’s friends seemed to have been studying here and there, so it looks like Tsubasa-kun was the only one in real danger…”

“We’d been telling him to study for ages, but he ignored us. So when he suddenly brought up the event now, like, ‘What about this?’… there was no way we were going to help him.”

“So when you refused, that’s what happened?”

When I asked that, both of them nodded.

Saki just looked dumbfounded, but Miku seemed a bit angry.

Well, from Miku and the others’ perspective, Nanashima only said things that suited him.

The day before the test, and given the reason… Of course they had their own studying to do. It was only natural.

As I was thinking that, Miku spoke up.

“Well, never mind that. Shouldn’t we get going too?”

“Yeah, right. Kana-chan must be waiting.”

“True.”

With that, we stood up and left the classroom, now empty except for us three.

◇

“We’re home!”

“Excuse us.”

“Ah! Welcome back, everyone!!”

After leaving school, we headed straight to my house.

The reason Kana was at my place was simple: she’s still in middle school.

That meant while we had tests in twelve subjects, she only had ten. So by the time we were taking our third-period tests, it was already after school for her.

We’d planned to hang out together after the tests, but everyone agreed they’d rather relax indoors than go out and get rowdy.

Well, we were tired from studying for the tests, so that makes sense.

Because of that, the place became my house, so Kana, who finished school earlier, was waiting there.

“Alright then, Miku and Saki, go ahead and go to my room first. Kana and I will bring drinks and stuff.”

“You two wait there first!”

“Got it. See you later then.”

“Thanks, Kana-chan, and Seito-kun.”

—So, I sent Mikku and Saki to my room, while Kana and I carried the drinks together.

“Kana?”

“Yes! Is something wrong, Seito-senpai?”

“Did you clean up?”

Actually, it wasn’t just cleaning—the laundry was done too, so I was pretty sure.

I was planning to do it tonight myself.

“Yes! I had free time anyway, and I thought it might be helpful for you, Seito-senpai!!”

When I asked her that, Kana smiled brightly and said it.

…Honestly, this side of Kana is really cute.

I really have a wonderful girlfriend… I thought to myself, patting Kana’s head as I spoke.

“Thanks, Kana.”

“Ehehe. It’s the least I could do. Just tell me if there’s anything I can do. I’ll do anything for you, Seito-senpai.”

“I’ll ask if I need anything, so count on me then.”

“Yes!”

By the way, I still haven’t heard anything about Kana’s test results.

We could have asked for interim results, but we’d agreed not to discuss them. The reasoning was that if the results were bad, it might drag us down the next day too.

What’s done is done; tomorrow matters more. That’s our shared consensus.

Well, we’ll probably talk about it with everyone later, so I’ll just wait until then.

I’m sure Kana will be fine, and I’m not worried about her.
