A few days had passed since I started dating Saki, and today was the day the final exam results would be posted on the bulletin board.
I’d already told Kana and Miku about dating Saki. I hadn’t told anyone else, but Saki’s parents would probably notice right away… Actually, I kinda think they already have. Not that I have any proof, though.
Also, while both Kana and Miku had messaged me congratulations, I’d noticed Miku sometimes wore a slightly complicated expression when we met at school.
Well, technically, the three of us are dating while Miku isn’t, so it’s understandable she might feel uneasy.
Considering all that—and honestly, I’d been thinking about bringing it up sooner anyway—I have something I want to talk to Miku about today. I’m determined to tell her properly.
Anyway, back to the topic. At our school, the overall scores get posted before individual results are returned, so we still have no idea what our own scores are. That’s why we haven’t discussed the test at all.
There were 12 subjects total, so the perfect score this time was 1200 points.
Looking up at the bulletin board, my name was at the top of the first-year list. Score-wise, it was 1200 points – a perfect score.
Well, I was confident and I reviewed it. I figured this would happen if I hadn’t made any careless mistakes, so I guess you could say it was as I expected.
Then, looking down one name below mine, the name there was also as expected: Suzukaze Miku.
Her score was 1198 points—seems she got just one question wrong.
This must be incredibly frustrating for Miku… She said she studied hard and felt confident too…
I didn’t hear this from Miku herself, but from Kana and Saki—apparently, after losing to me last time, Miku started studying even harder than before. Of course, she was already incredibly dedicated, but they said she’d stepped it up even further.
Still, 1198 points. Getting a score like that is undeniably impressive. I really think it’s amazing.
And then, right below Miku’s name, two spots down, was Hiiragi Saki’s ranking: 4th place. Her score was 1125 points.
The person in 3rd place isn’t my classmate, and I don’t know her name, but she scored 1130 points. That’s only a 5-point difference. If she’d gotten just two or three more questions right, she would’ve won.
Considering Saki was 10th last time, this is a really good result. Actually, Saki said her best was 10th, so this test is her highest rank ever. All those study sessions and late-night calls while studying really paid off.
I’m so glad we all worked hard together, and above all, both of them are truly amazing…
Thinking that, I started heading towards the classroom.
By the way, Kana’s score isn’t posted on this bulletin board, so I don’t know it yet. But, just like with the midterm, I’m not worried. Kana will be fine.

――So I arrived in front of the classroom, but to be honest, I actually came to school quite a bit earlier than usual today.
Not that there was any special reason, really. It was just because the test results were being posted. The area around that bulletin board gets incredibly crowded… Plus, even after people finish checking their own results, some stay there chatting excitedly, making it really noisy…
Checking my results in that kind of crowd felt a bit of a drag, so that’s why I came early.
(Clatter clatter clatter)
So I opened the classroom door, but only four people were inside.
Three girls from the volleyball club were chatting and laughing loudly at the front desks… and the other person was Miku, reading a book at her own desk.
Then, perfectly timed, the three volleyball girls said they were going to the bathroom and left the classroom.
Usually, it’s Saki and Kana who come together, so this was unusual… I thought, but then I suddenly remembered that last Friday, Miku had said she was on duty next Monday.
Checking the blackboard, Suzukaze was written in the duty roster spot, so there was no mistake.
Thinking that, I sat down at my seat next to Miku and greeted her.
“Good morning, Miku.”
When I said that, Miku flinched a little and replied.
“G-good morning, Seito.”
“Sorry, sorry. Startled you by talking to you out of the blue.”
“It’s fine, really. Anyway, you’re early today.”
“Well, yeah. I wanted to check my test results, so I just left home a bit earlier. Good job being duty student today, Miku.”
“Thanks… Anyway, Seito got full marks again, didn’t you? I lost again…”
Miku said this, sounding just a little dissatisfied.
“But you were close, Miku. You got 1198 points.”
“Yeah, but a loss is a loss. You really are amazing.”
“It’s thanks to us all studying together.”
“You say that, but you were just teaching us the whole time…”
“That might be true, but teaching is also studying. And honestly, it’s also true that you guys motivated me to do it.”
It’s true I spent a lot of time teaching, but that itself was good review and not a bad way to study. Plus, having the three of you there really did give me motivation to study.
And it’s not like I felt pressure or anything, but hearing them say I’m smart… well, it kinda made me happy. That probably played a part too. It made me want to live up to their expectations and push myself harder.
“Honestly… Well, it seems Saki did well too, so that’s good.”
“Yeah. Saki said her best was 10th place, so you can tell she really worked hard. I’m sure Kana will get a good result too, in her own way.”
“I’m sure Kana will be fine too, and I think so too. It’ll be okay.”
“Anyway, good job on the test.”
“Good job… but you already said that on Friday…”
“Oh, right…”
“What’s up? You seem weird?”
Taking a breath at Miku’s words, I said.
“Miku… are you free this Saturday?”
When I asked that, Miku looked a little surprised and said.
“S-Saturday?”
“Yeah. Saturday.”
“Saturday… Oh, I’m free… But what about it?”
“Well then, let’s go out together.”
I said with a smile, and Miku looked surprised again.
“W-both of us!?”
“Yeah. Just the two of us.”
“W-what about Kana and Saki? Didn’t you just start seeing Saki recently…”
That was true, and time with Saki and Kana was undoubtedly important.
But actually, I’d already gotten their approval. Last night, I contacted them individually and told them I wanted to go out with Miku.
Needless to say, they both agreed immediately.
They didn’t say it, but they must have noticed Miku looking a little lonely or anxious. Well, if I noticed, it’s only natural they did too.
“It’s fine. I already told them both, and time with Miku is just as important to me.”
“I-I see…”
When I said that, Miku looked away from me and stared out the window.
“So, what do you say? Saturday?”
“I-I guess… I guess I’ll go…”
“Thanks. See you Saturday then.”
“See you…”
Right after that, the three volleyball club members came back, and then more and more classmates started arriving, so our conversation ended there.
After that, Miku seemed to keep staring out the window like before, but her ears had turned bright red.
