Episode 19 – Unforgettable memories

How I, a Hated Person, Ended Up Staying With Three Beautiful Sisters

On the day of the field trip, I left home at a different time from Maho and we agreed to meet at the destination.

Naturally, all eyes were on us for various reasons.

Or rather, it was obvious that my presence was causing a commotion around Maho.

But she herself was

“…What’s the big deal? You’re acting like a child, you idiot.”

She was completely unfazed and acted as if nothing was wrong.

The gap between her delicate, beautiful appearance and her sharp gaze was striking.

As the second daughter of the beautiful three sisters, her confident personality clearly showed that her mental strength was extraordinary.

Though, in class, she probably toned down her confident personality and acted like a rather demure female student.

“Come on, let’s go.”

Maho started walking through the crowd.

I followed slightly behind her.

The field trip was basically a loose free activity where each group could walk around as they pleased.

The weather was good. The breeze was cool, perfect for walking.

We walked along the well-maintained path, enjoying the sunlight filtering through the trees.

“…Still, aren’t you getting too much attention? Even after Akane’s incident?”

“My reputation is worse than a cockroach’s.”

“Why are you so arrogant?”

“Because I’m one of a kind.”

“I don’t get it. Anyway, lately you’ve been called the worst kind of person, like an executioner or a rapist, but have you always been like that since middle school?”

“I’ve always had weird nicknames, haven’t I? I’m sure there are lots of nicknames I don’t even know about. But I’ll deny this one. I haven’t done anything to deserve that kind of name. Probably.”

“Hmm…well, it’s better than denying it and just accepting it. But I’m still curious about the ‘probably’ part.”

Maho pursed her lips.

“Maybe I’m a perverted rapist, and you just don’t know about it. That’s why I say ‘probably.’”

“Hmm. If you’ve been like that since middle school, does that mean you don’t have any fun memories, love stories, or unforgettable experiences?”

“No love stories. No fun memories. I didn’t have any friends or acquaintances. The person I talked to the most during those three years was my homeroom teacher.”

“What a pity, those three years of middle school.”

“…..But there is one unforgettable memory. It’s not a pleasant story to hear, though.”

“Huh? That’s intriguing. What kind of story? Horror? Betrayal? ….Could it be infidelity?”

Maho leaned forward and peered into my face.

“If I had to categorize it, I’d say it’s horror.”

The unforgettable memory. It’s the incident that led to me being treated the way I am now.

It’s not just because I have a bad attitude and am blunt. There’s a proper reason why things turned out this way.

“Horror…like ghosts or spirits?”

“No. It’s horror in a sense, but not that kind of direct horror.”

“Hmm. Well, whatever.”

Maho suddenly lost interest.

If she’s not going to press the issue, that’s fine. If I tell her, she’ll probably nag me about it, and if she finds out about my middle school days, she’ll be disappointed in me.

Anyway, more importantly…the group of four in front of us has been watching us the whole time. They’re part of Maho’s group, so of course they’re looking at Maho. I’m probably in their way.

“I’m sitting here because my shoes are hurting my feet.”

“Eh?”

Maho glanced at me for a moment, but when she noticed the figure approaching from ahead, she let out a small gasp.

I silently nodded and gave a slight nod with my chin to signal her to go.

In situations like this, it’s better not to make her feel uncomfortable.

“…Sorry. I’ll be right back. You just relax and take a break.”

Maho said apologetically, then ran off lightly. “Maho ! Did he do anything to you !?” someone asked her, but she brushed it off, saying, “It’s okay, he doesn’t have the guts to do anything like that. Besides…” And that was the end of the conversation about me. Maho is amazing. She’s so strong.

“Ugh…I’m tired.”

I was left alone and sat down on a bench in the shade of a nearby tree.

The wind blew across my cheeks. The rustling of the trees faintly shook my mind.

The conversation from earlier lingered in my mind.

Unforgettable memories, huh.

Memories you don’t want to remember never become the past.

I knew that well.

That was—

As I thought that far, I closed my eyes and exhaled deeply.

Why did it turn out that way…
