Episode 9 – Miyu [Onii chan]

How I, a Hated Person, Ended Up Staying With Three Beautiful Sisters

After being freed from sitting cross-legged at 9 a.m., I was immediately kicked out of the room.

The reason was that

“Well, you can go out. I’m inviting some friends over today, so you’re in the way. Kill some time somewhere until evening.”

Maho seemed to have completely mistaken me for air or something, and she pushed a tote bag and a cute coin purse on the sofa into my chest.

“Here. This is money and a shopping list. Groceries, detergent, tissues, and various other things. Also, our shampoo is almost gone, so please buy some. Thanks !”

“…I want to study for the midterm exam the day after tomorrow.”

Due to the eviction notice, moving, rope bondage, confession watch, and various other troubles, I haven’t been able to secure any time for myself.

I haven’t skipped any prep or review, so the test itself should be fine, but I still want to be as sure as possible.

But my wish was ignored by the tyrant Maho.

“You’re living in someone else’s house, so don’t complain ! Come on, hurry up and go !”

So, burdened with the morning’s injustice, I was thrown out into the street.

I had nowhere to go. I planned to do my shopping before returning home, so I needed to kill time somewhere until then.

“I don’t have any study materials…maybe I’ll read a book.”

With nothing else to do, I found myself heading toward an old bookstore.

I decided to kill time by browsing through the books.

It was a modest bookstore with a mix of used and new books. It was inconspicuous but quiet and relaxing. I used to visit it often when I lived in a run-down apartment.

My favorite section was the area adjacent to the literature section. There were plenty of light novels, used games, figures, and stuffed animals for sale, making it perfect for killing time.

It was early Saturday morning, so there weren’t many people around.

However, there was a small figure hopping around.

What caught my eye was her fluffy medium-length hair in a label-like color. She was short, and at first glance, she looked like a middle school student.

And her white, slender hands were reaching out eagerly toward the books on the upper shelves.

The section where she was hopping around was where the beautiful girl games and their original books were displayed.

There was no mistaking it. That fluffy hair, that sleepy face. It was definitely the third daughter–Miyu.

“…Miyu?”

When I called out to her, she jumped in surprise and slowly turned to look at me.

Her eyes were still dreamy, but her cheeks were slightly red.

She pursed her lips and said nothing.

“Do you want me to get it for you?”

When I asked, Miyu nodded shyly, so I reached up and grabbed the book from the top shelf and handed it to her.

“Here.”

Miyu took the book with both hands, her cheeks still red, and turned around…then suddenly ran away.

“Eh. She ran away !? Wait, she paid so fast !”

Miyu dashed toward the register, completed her purchase at an astonishing speed, and then fled the store.

For some reason, she ran away.

“Haa…damn it.”

I let out a small sigh and scratched my head, wondering what I was doing.

It wasn’t like I was in trouble if she ran away, but for some reason, I couldn’t just leave her be.

“What are you thinking?”

I followed after Miyu.

A few minutes later.

I found Miyu sitting on a bench in a nearby park.

“Phew…there you are.”

I approached Miyu while catching my breath.

She had a book on her knees and was fidgeting with the edge of the page with her fingers.

Her eyes were still sleepy, but the moment she saw me, she stiffened.

“I found you.”

When I spoke to her, Miyu lowered her gaze and bowed her head.

However, her face was slightly redder than usual, and her gaze was unfocused.

Though her sleepy expression remained unchanged, there was a hint of embarrassment.

“You seem pretty relaxed, don’t you?”

Unaware of my exhausted state, Miyu surprisingly looked calm and composed.

“But you’re not good at sports or studying, are you?”

“Well, whatever. Why did you run away?”

“It’s none of your business. Shut up. Stop bothering me.”

She muttered that much.

“Shut up. I just noticed something was off about you, so I asked. Why did you run away? Is it related to that book?”

When I sat down next to her, Miyu nodded.

She averted her gaze and fiddled with her hair. The cover of the book on her lap was desperately hidden by her hands.

That gesture felt somehow fresh.

I couldn’t help but smile.

“…Why are you laughing?”

“Nothing. You’re usually so serious, I can’t tell what you’re thinking, but when asked about that book, you get flustered.”

“Ugh…don’t be mean.”

When Miyu hugged her knees and curled up, the cover of the book flashed into view.

There was a familiar title.

“Is that Tokimeki Labyrinth? Do you like it?”

When I asked her that, Miyu flinched, then nodded slightly.

“…What, you know about it?”

“Yeah. I’ve played the game and read the original novel you have now. It’s a gal game, but the choices are crazy and interesting. Mixing adventure elements with romantic comedy and being able to conquer both enemies and allies is refreshing.”

I spoke impulsively and then realized my mistake.

I’m the kind of otaku who gets excited as soon as the conversation turns to hobbies.

“Sorry. I talked too much.”

Saying that, Miyu shook her head slightly and moved her lips just a little.

“No, don’t worry about it…I was just so happy I couldn’t say anything.”

“Happy?”

“Yes. Everyone around me fawns over me, but the real me likes games where you can conquer cute girls and slightly erotic novels. But I didn’t have anyone to talk to about that…I’m happy. That’s why I was looking at the keychain on your bag.”

Though her words were few, it was clear she was doing her best.

Miyu untangled her legs and confidently showed the book’s cover.

Her face wasn’t her usual expressionless one. She looked a bit shy, yet somehow proud.

“By the way…I love [Imokano]. I think pure school romance comedies are the best.”

I never thought I’d hear that title come out of Miyu’s mouth. I want to make my sister my girlfriend. Short for “Imokano” it’s a masterpiece known only to those in the know.

You can romance not only your real sister, but also the step-sister of your parents’ new spouse, the sister of your fiancée from an arranged marriage, and even an elf step-sister from another world.

It’s one of my favorite works. Both the game and the original novel are interesting. I also like the comic adaptation.

“You have good taste. The omnibus-style romance is compelling, and the scenario is profound. The way it thoroughly delves into the protagonist’s past in the alternate route is also intense. It’s no longer a romantic comedy but a touching ensemble drama.”

“Yeah, you’re right. Onii chan really gets it.”

“…Could it be that the ‘Onii chan’ nickname is influenced by the younger sister character?”

“Correct. I’ve always wanted an older brother. So I tried calling you that. At first it felt awkward, but now it feels natural. An older brother should be called an Onii chan.”

Miyu swayed side to side, stretching her legs out.

It was the moment my impression of her changed 540 degrees.

I thought she was unfriendly and hard to read, but surprisingly, she was talkative and easy to get along with.

“You seem to be having fun.”

“…Just a little bit. I can talk to you again if you want.”

“That’s….not good. It’s only a disadvantage for me.”

“Disadvantage?”

“You should know that without me saying it.”

Your sisters will get mad at me.

“I see. Then we can’t talk at school either.”

“Of course not. School is even worse. You know the rumors about me, right? If you talk to someone like me, you’ll be hated in no time.”

“Rumors are just rumors. You don’t know if they’re true or not.”

“Rumors you don’t know if they’re true or not are the scariest, aren’t they? Can you say for sure that I’m not like the rumors say? What if I took you into a dark alley? Would you think, ‘Maybe he’ll tell me a secret’? You wouldn’t, would you?”

“Eh…”

“That’s right. The executioner’s rapist doesn’t choose his victims or his location.”

“…I’m sorry.”

“Well, there’s no need to apologize. Anyway, forget about the common topic we found. This is the last time we’ll have a conversation like this. I’ll be gone from there in a month anyway, and maybe even by Monday. You never know what might happen, so let’s just keep things casual.”

As I stood up, saying that, Miyu didn’t say anything.

She just kept her head down, holding the book to her chest.

She looked like she wanted to say something, but couldn’t find the words.
