Episode 30 – North Wind’s Sigh

Posted on 23 May 202524 May 2025 By Maitoshi No Comments on Episode 30 – North Wind’s Sigh

I Was Supposed to Be Giving Love Advice on the School Radio, but Before I Knew It, the Beautiful Girls at School Were Hitting on Me

After I fought off the flirtatious men, a security guard came to check on us.

I was afraid he would say something because of my loud voice, but thanks to someone who was filming our exchange nearby, we were let go without any charges.

What’s more, he promised to kick those guys out of the shopping mall as soon as he found them, since they were causing a nuisance. Serves them right.

“Take care of your girlfriend then.”

“O-of course……”

I smile as the security guard smiles and waves at us, and I reply with a wry smile.

Kitahara is still clinging to my arm. There are certainly plenty of elements to mislead people, like my video…

“Uh……Kitahara san? It’s about time you let go of me…….”

“No.”

A short but firm reply of rejection.

Well, I’m sure she must have had quite a frightening time…….

“Well, then, shall we have lunch as planned?”

“……Yeah.”

Weak reply. I ended up letting Kitahara do what she wanted and decided to go into a chain coffee shop where we could get a light meal.

♢

“I’ll have two pasta sets, please. One carbonara and pescatore.”

The waitress gave me a nice smile and briskly left.

I guess she had calmed down once she entered the restaurant, which was not that crowded, and Kitahara sat down in front of me.

After we finished ordering, Kitahara took a drink of water and let out a small breath.

“Have you calmed down?”

“……Yes, I’m sorry for being so distraught.”

“…No, it’s because I left you alone.”

“No, I’m sorry.”

“It’s not Kitahara’s place to apologize.”

Was it for getting hit on, or for clinging to my arm? I wasn’t sure which one it was, but either way I knew it wasn’t something she should apologize for.

But Kitahara was not satisfied with that.

“I’m sorry, even though we’re on a date.”

“That’s okay, I want to enjoy our date this afternoon.”

I told her the words that Kitahara had dared to avoid.

Kitahara continued to smile and skillfully puffed out her cheeks.

“Meany.”

“Hahaha, it’s a payback.”

I laughed it off, and Kitahara shrugged her shoulders.

“What’s the matter, you’ve lost your nervousness.”

“It might be easier to talk if I relax.”

“……Might be right.”

After a few words, Kitahara slumped back against the sofa.

“I am very shy.”

Kitahara began to speak in small talk.

“People around me call me the Lady of the North Wind, but the truth is I’m just not very good at talking to people.”

“……You know about rumors like that, too, don’t you?”

“If you go to that school, you’re bound to hear about it whether you like it or not.”

This was surprising, as I thought Kitahara didn’t care in the slightest about anything related to her.

“So when I got hit on like today, my legs froze and I couldn’t move.”

“It’s normal to be scared of something like that.”

I’ve never been in a situation like that before either, but I think that was pretty scary.

However, Kitahara doesn’t seem to think so. She shook her head slightly.

‘I should have refused them. That’s why I put you through so much trouble.”

“If I can help Kitahara with that, it’s a small price to pay.”

“……”

I tried my best to say the kindest and nicest things possible, but Kitahara didn’t react.

She rested her elbows on the table and glared at me with a dirty look in her eyes.

“Kageyama kun….”

“W-what is it?”

“At this rate, you’ll get stabbed someday.”

“What do you mean !?”

I thought I’d said something nice, which is unusual for me, but it seems to have had the opposite effect. Women’s hearts are complicated.

“That being said, thank you for helping me, Kageyama kun. I couldn’t have done it on my own.”

“Don’t mind it, I did what I had to do.”

We looked at each other and laughed lightly.

“But my shyness is really a problem, I end up causing trouble for you, Kageyama kun.”

“……”

Kitahara says in a light tone, but I can tell that she is seriously troubled. I felt frustrated that I couldn’t respond to her.

“I’m sorry to keep you waiting, here’s your pasta set order.”

Our conversation was interrupted by the arrival of our dishes at exactly the right moment. While I was struggling to roll up the carbonara, Kitahara was deftly rolling up the pescatore with lots of ingredients.

“By the way, Kitahara, even though you said you were shy, you talked to me normally. How did you do that?”

“With Kageyama kun……?”

“Yeah, you talked to me during lunch break.”

“Ah, that was……”

It was quite a shocking encounter for me, but Kitahara looked like she remembered when I told her. She put the pasta in her mouth and chewed it while thinking.

“What can I say, Kageyama kun was easy to talk to.”

“Does that mean….because you’re sitting next to me?”

Or is it that she doesn’t see me as the opposite sex….but if it’s the latter, it’s quite a shock.

I waited for Kitahara’s reply.

“Well, 30 points.”

“….I see.”

“Look, if you don’t eat the carbonara soon, it will get cold. Besides, we don’t have much time left before the open recording.”

Kitahara told me to check the time, but there wasn’t much time left before the numbered tickets were distributed.

“Oh no, we have to hurry up and eat…..!”

I quickly used my fork to eat my carbonara.

♢

“Excuse me, let me through……”

We walked past the people sitting in the pipe chairs and arrived at our seats.

Because it was a public recording of a popular radio show, the hall, which should have been a rickety place at the time of the preview, was already full of people.

We managed to get seated, but the stage was far in front of us.

I glanced to the back of the hall and saw that there were twice as many people in the lineup as there had been when we got there.

“Haa.”

“You look pretty happy, even though we’re at the back of the line.”

“All of these people are Heart Lady fans, right? I’m happy about that.”

The show’s joy is my joy, of course.

“…You’re still as excited as ever.”

“What can I say, I’m a fan.”

“I’m stunned.”

When I answered proudly, Kitahara put out both hands in exasperation.

But I can’t help it if this is my honest impression.

“I heard there’s going to be an audience-participation question-and-answer session ! I’m seriously looking forward to it !

“There’s a huge turnout, but I hope you win !”

I nodded emphatically to Kitahara, who looked around.

“Right ! Hmm, what should I ask? Maybe what made her want to work in radio? Or what’s the funniest letter she has ever received? Or maybe, but as a broadcasting clubmember, maybe I should ask her for some tips on radio…!”

“Yes, yes, calm down, others are paying attention.”

Kitahara admonished me, but I couldn’t control my fidgeting.

At that moment, music begins to play in the hall. It was the intro to Heart Lady Night.

As the hall erupts in excitement, two men and a woman enter, waving their hands in the air.

The main event of the day has finally begun.
