I Was Supposed to Be Giving Love Advice on the School Radio, but Before I Knew It, the Beautiful Girls at School Were Hitting on Me
“Um…..”
It was a clear morning, and I arrived at school unusually early at a time when most of my classmates were gone.
Mornings, and time alone, are great for anything you do. The feeling of superiority of occupying a large, spacious classroom helps me concentrate better.
Yesterday I didn’t get any work done at all…..so I had to finish it up…… I spread the paper busily on the desk and grabbed a mechanical pencil.
But that time didn’t last long. The sound of someone entering through the open back door.
The sound of a pair of slippers echoes through the silent classroom, and then the sound stops next to me.
“Good morning, Kageyama kun.”
The sound of a chair being pulled next to me. The beautiful girl in my class was standing straight and as beautiful as ever.
“Good morning, Kitahara.”
Gently putting down her bag, Kitahara sat down on the chair. In the empty classroom, it was as if a flower had suddenly bloomed around me.
“Kitahara, you’re an early riser.”
“It’s quiet in the morning, so it’s perfect for reading a book.”
“I see, I wholeheartedly agree.”
It’s certainly easy to imagine Kitahara reading a book while basking in the morning sun, and it seemed like he looked good.
“Kageyama kun, you’re unusually early.”
“I have a lot to do today. I didn’t feel like I could concentrate at home, so I went to school as soon as I could.”
“Are you talking about the radio again?”
“Correct.”
I answered with rhythm.
Kitahara took a book out of her bag and sighed.
“You are as serious as ever, aren’t you?”
“No, I’m just paying for my lack of seriousness.”
“Are you up late by any chance?”
“I had a radio show yesterday that I really wanted to re-tune……”
It’s an ordinary morning conversation, but Kitahara giggles.
She’s even been nicknamed the Lady of the North Wind because she doesn’t get involved with other people, but no one knows we’re friends.
What brought us together was the radio program I run.
It turned out that Kitahara was a listener of the radio show I do during my lunch break, and that’s how our relationship began.
I was embarrassed to call her a listener, but I didn’t have many friends either. I was very grateful for this relationship.
But there was one problem…….
“So, what are you doing today? On-air is tomorrow, right?”
“Oh, no, I’m just trying to figure out what to do with the letters I couldn’t read last week……”
“Hmmm, what kind?”
As she said this, Kitahara leaned forward without opening the book and went to check the letter that was open on the desk.
A beautiful face comes closer and closer,
“H-hey Kitahara……?”
“What is it?”
Kitahara’s face, looking my way, was literally right in front of my nose. Damn, she smells so good…
Yes. Actually, Kitahara seems too close for a friend.
Maybe it’s a reaction to the fact that she doesn’t usually talk to people, but she’s been strangely close since we became friends.
You could say that this is just a misunderstanding on the part of an unpopular guy, but still, I’m a healthy teenager.
I can’t hold myself up in the morning if a beautiful girl like Kitahara approaches me.
As she was bending over with only her upper body, Kitahara suddenly backed away with a troubled look on her face.
“There’s no need to be so blunt about it.”
“No, it’s not that I don’t like it…..in fact, I don’t dislike it, so it’s not really a problem…”
“? Then there’s no problem.”
My desperate explanation was in vain, and Kitahara tilted her head.
“No….”
“So? What kind of letter did you receive?”
Kitahara tried to come closer to me again.
This is not good, if this keeps up I won’t be able to get any work done…
Oh yeah !
“I won’t stop you from looking, but are you sure?”
“What?”
“This is a letter I didn’t get to read last week, which means it’s a letter you might get to listen to next time. If you read it first, won’t you miss out on all the fun?”
“……Surely, that’s one way to look at it.”
It seemed she understood, and Kitahara returned to her seat obediently. Good, now I can concentrate…
In the empty classroom, the sounds of Kitahara and I flipping through papers echoed throughout the room.
Ah, now I can finally concentrate……
“Hey, Kageyama kun.”
“What is it, Kitahara?”
“I like it.”
“Hyoo !?”
Reflexively, I took my eyes off the letter and turned to Kitahara.
“I like……Kageyama kun’s radio.”
“Oh, that…….”
I was surprised because he said something ambiguous.
But Kitahara put her index finger to her mouth and tilted her head.
“Kageyama kun, what on earth did you think I was talking about?”
“Beats me.”
I was surprised to hear Kitahara smiling mischievously, and headed back to the letter again.
“Now that you mention it, I’ve been listening to it since then. Heart Lady Night.”
“Seriously !?”
“You recommend it, right?”
I was quite shocked, to be honest. I didn’t think it had been that long since I introduced it to her, but I didn’t realize she had already listened to it……
“So…..whaddya think?”
To be honest, I felt like I spoke with a lot of momentum at the time, so I honestly thought I’d made a mistake. But Kitahara nodded her head without changing her expression.
“Yes, it was very interesting.”
“I-I see……!”
“The MC didn’t try to make you laugh, and he spoke in a tone that was just right for work, so it was a really comfortable time. It might not be the best thing to say, but it didn’t feel like a local radio show.”
I thought I had made a pretty aggressive choice, but it was very well received.
There is no boy who wouldn’t be happy to be praised for something he likes. I put the letter down for the moment and turned to face Kitahara.
“Right ! When I first heard about it, it was so funny that I thought it was a nationwide phenomenon !
Both of the MCs had very clear voices and were very pleasant to the ear. They were very polite in the way they handled the letters, and I felt like they really cared about their listeners. I wish I could be like that……”
I looked at the several letters that had been placed in my hand.
While praising my ideals, I also feel that my own abilities are lacking. I wish I could get better at these things…
Kitahara looked at me as I continued staring at the letters and asked curiously.
“One question, Kageyama kun, don’t you make manuscripts or something?”
“Ah, erm…….”
Kitahara’s gaze fell on a letter with almost no writing on it.
“I have the image that radio MC’s prepare their scripts and broadcast them, but……Kageyama kun, do you not?”
I was at a loss for words. No, that was quite a sharp point….
“I’m doing it, you know? I’m writing little things in the letters like this.”
“But that’s just notes, isn’t it? You can’t call it a manuscript.”
Just when I think I can get away with it, Kitahara takes the bait.
Hmm…to be honest, I’m embarrassed to talk about this…
“Do you really want to hear it?”
“Yes, it’s Kageyama kun, so it’s not simply because you’re busy or anything like that, is it?”
“Well, yes, but….”
I’d like to say that she overestimated this, but there is another reason.
Kitahara stares at me with determined eyes that seem to say she won’t back down a single step.
Oh well, I guess I can talk about it with Kitahara……
“It’s no big deal. Radio is a live speech, right? The tension and the way the tongue rolls vary depending on the moment. So I try to write down at least what I really want to say so that people can hear what I’m saying at the moment I go on the air.”
To be honest, this is a big talk from someone at my level. But to entertain people, I have to entertain myself first.
I want to share my raw feelings at the time, and I want to have fun with listeners when I read their letters, and as a result, I decided to adopt this style.
Well, I often have accidents because of it…….
“And that’s about it.”
“So you really don’t make up scripts or anything? Do you improvise everything during the show?”
“Not all of it, but most of it is improvised.”
“I-I see. That is……amazing….”
Kitahara’s shapely lips are slightly open in surprise.
“Stop it, I’m just trying to be cool.”
“No, before you even get into the cool stuff, I think that’s impossible…”
I can understand why Kitahara is surprised. When I first joined the club, I was also surprised when I heard the seniors’ broadcasts.
However, I felt embarrassed when she expressed such honest surprise, so I returned my gaze to the letter in front of me.
“Look, let’s concentrate on each other’s work, okay? We don’t want our classmates to see us like this.”
If they find out that the Lady of the North Wind was talking to a shady person like me, it could lead to some kind of embarrassing story.
As I began to prepare for the radio, Kitahara seemed to give up and opened a book she had left on her desk.
“Hey, Kageyama kun.”
“What is it?”
“I like it.”
“…..Which radio is it this time?”
I kept my eyes on the letter.
Kitahara huffed beside me.
“Who knows.”
The classroom door opened and I heard someone enter from behind.
I couldn’t seem to concentrate properly on my work.
