I Was Supposed to Be Giving Love Advice on the School Radio, but Before I Knew It, the Beautiful Girls at School Were Hitting on Me
“Good work, Kinami.”
“You too, Senpai.”
The girl, with a cheerful energy that made the word ‘good work’ not even remotely appropriate, sat down in the seat next to me.
“Are you taking a break too?”
“Yes, the manager has already served all the cakes, so he said I can go to the back of the store.”
“You mean a full set…about 10 dishes?”
“No, I did it with Miharu san, so it was about 5 dishes.”
Miharu san is a college student part-timer who, like Kinami, is a staff member in charge of the hall.
I checked the clock and it was just under five minutes since I went on break. The pace at which the food was being served was impressive, as was the manager who was cooking it.
“I can’t believe it’s only been a month since you started working here……”
“Hehehe, I’m still a former regular at Bianca’s.””
Kinami laughed bashfully.
She was originally a regular at Bianca, but this year she became a high school student and was finally allowed to work part-time, so she started working here.
I was just thinking that a cute girl around middle school age often comes by, and then suddenly she was standing next to me wearing Bianca’s uniform, so I was quite surprised at the time…
At first I was worried about whether she would be able to do the job properly, but she took her job very seriously, and with her agility and natural charm, she was able to fit in well within a month.
I work in radio so I understand a little bit, but laughing a lot and keeping a smile on your face are two different things. In that respect, Kinami stands out.
“Haa…….”
“What’s with the sigh? You sound old.”
However, maybe because we are close in age, her only flaw is that she can be really rude to me…
“If only you were a little more honest……”
“Eh, more than this? Senpai’s being too greedy.”
With a dissatisfied look on her face, Kinami reached out and picked up my cell phone which was lying on the desk.
“Hey.”
“You listen to the radio during your break? You must really like it~”
“whatever.”
Feeling somewhat embarrassed, I took the smartphone back from Kinami.
“The level of excitement is completely different from when you’re talking on the daytime radio show.”
“Well, of course, someone with that kind of excitement in everyday life would be pretty annoying.”
“Is that so? I think that’s just fine with me, though, don’t you?”
Kinami turned on her smartphone, then turned on the camera and began fiddling with her bangs.
“By the way, Kinami, are you even listening to my radio show?”
“Yes, well, it’s a broadcast by a senior I know, and it would be bad for me not to listen.”
“I-I see……”
She’s not the type of person who would listen to the radio, and I hadn’t told her that the radio was on, but to think that she knew…
“What is it? You’re suddenly grinning.”
“Well, I just thought you’re a very respectful person.”
“Wha !?”
Kinami suddenly turns her face from her smartphone towards me.
“T-that’s not true ! None of my classmates are listening at all, so I’m only listening because I feel sorry for you !”
“Now, now, you don’t have to hide it~”
When I take this opportunity to stir things up, Kinami’s big eyes widen to their fullest and she shivers.
“I’m telling you the truth ! I didn’t send you any letter at all !”
“Yes, yes, it’s just a coincidence, right?”
“T-that’s right! I’m glad you understand……”
Once I’d properly conveyed my understanding, Kinami trailed off but seemed convinced as she returned to her seat.
The speed at which Kinami fiddles with her phone seems to have increased, if only from the bottom of her heart.
Once again, I put the earphones in my ears and enjoyed the rest of the radio.
“Um, senpai.”
“What is it?”
I glanced to the side, but Kinami’s eyes were fixed on the phone.
I turn to face the phone in front of me.
“You’ve started some kind of love counseling section on the radio, haven’t you, Senpai?”
“Yeah, I did.”
“Are you really….answering all of the questions?”
Kinami asked in a tone that sounded like it was just a trivial question to break the silence.
I’m a little embarrassed, but…..well, I’ll answer honestly.
“Yeah, I’m answering honestly. I’m speaking in an exciting tone, but I’m trying to convey my true feelings.”
“……I see.”
After a moment of silence, Kinami answered quietly.
…Come to think of it, Kitahara asked me something similar the other day.
I guess girls are interested in this sort of thing.
“Hey, Kinami.”
“I’m sorry, you two ! We suddenly have a lot of customers, so can you help us?”
Just as I was about to ask Kinami a question, the door to the break room opened with a bang and a large man appeared out of nowhere.
We took off our phones and earphones and looked at each other.
[ [ Yes ! We’re coming !] ]
My strength had already been restored.
“Kageyama kun, can you get meat sauce and Caesar from Number 10 next?”
“OIf course ! Shall I brew some orange juice?”
“Thank you !”
“Manager, can I have three cake sets for Number 2, and another latte for Number 6 !”
“They’re still coming……”
“Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of time !”
As I dealt with the constant stream of orders, I forgot what I had been planning to ask Kinami.
♢
“Phew, so tiring……”
“I didn’t expect a rush there…….”
After dealing with the rush, we were both sitting in our chairs, slumped in our chairs.
“I feel like I just made a week’s worth of Caesar salads……”
“I’ve had enough with cakes…..”
Kinami also lets out a voice that makes her unable to put words into words. I wonder what kind of fatigue comes from part-time work that is different from exercise…
“Sorry, you two…..I didn’t expect it to be so crowded……”
Shrinking his large body, the manager walks fearfully into the break room.
“It’s fine~ Manager, I feel like the smell of lettuce is seeping into my hands and I can’t get it off, but I’m fine~.”
“Same here. I don’t even wanna smell the sugar anymore.”
“I’m sorry~, I’ll raise your salary for today……”
“Please do, Manager……”
“I’ll take care of it, I’ve seen how hard you two work !”
The manager makes a big fist.
“Okay, it’s getting late, I’m going home. What about you, Senpai?”
“I’m going home too…….”
The word “salary” cheered me up a little, so we each got up and headed for the locker room.
“Whew, thanks for your hard work today.”
Kinami said as if to congratulate herself as well as me.
She stretches her head toward the sky.
In fact, after the break was over, Kinami’s work ethic was amazing. Ordering, serving, billing, and cleaning…..
It was hard to believe that she was only 15 years old and had been working part-time for only one month.
“You did a great job, Kinami.”
When I lightly patted her on the head from behind, she froze with her hands outstretched.
“S-stop it Senpai ! Why are you casually touching my head?”
“Ah…..sorry, ! I did it like I would do it to my sister……”
Kinami is petite and about the same height as my younger sister, so I couldn’t help but pat her on the head out of habit…
Kinami moves quickly and takes a position as if to protect her head with both hands.
“S-sister…..me, I’m your junior !”
“Y-you’re right ! Of course you don’t like it when I touch you all of a sudden…….”
I raised my hands as if I too was being held at gunpoint by the police, and Kinami’s expression clouded over for a moment.
“Ah, no, it’s not that I don’t like it or anything, I was just surprised…….”
“Eh?”
“It’s fine ! It’s nothing !”
Kinami turned away with a pout. It’s frustrating that I can’t say anything witty when a girl like this gets angry.
“I-I’m sorry……”
“Don’t apologize ! Well, nice work today !”
“Oh, you too……”
It seemed as if she would continue walking briskly with the same momentum, but then she turned around.
“I’m looking forward to the radio show the day after tomorrow !”
After saying this, Kinami walked away again.
“T-thanks……”
Hmm, I just wanted to show my appreciation, but I ended up making her angry instead…
“Girls around that age are difficult…….”
“What are you talking about?”
“!?”
Suddenly, a voice called out from behind me, making me startle and turn around.
There, smiling and waving in my direction, was a beautiful girl with straight black hair.
“K-Kitahara…….”
“I was wondering if you’ve just finished your part-time job.”
