“Yes… That’s not all, but that’s pretty much how it is… You can see through everything…”

Miku said that as if she had given up.

“I told you, didn’t I? You’re like me used to be.”

“Then how did you get over it, Kisaragi?”

“Rather than saying I got over it, it might be more accurate to say that someone appeared who made me feel that way. Well, to be honest, it’s about Kana, but when I talk to her, it somehow warms my heart.”

“Yeah, I understand that.”

“Besides, I’ve come to think that relying on someone or confiding in them doesn’t have to solve anything. Relying on someone or confiding in them clears your mind, and it’s nice that they think about things for you, even if it doesn’t lead to a solution. Besides, it’s tough to carry everything on your own, right?”

I actually feel the same way about Kana.

On the day I talked to Kana at the café, she’s been thinking about how to help me, like, “Maybe I should do this every day!” or something like that.

That’s a way to erase my bad reputation.

If I could settle the past and have everyone think I’ve changed, that would be wonderful… Kana has been thinking about what I said in her own way.

Of course, it’s still early days and there are no results yet, but I can tell that Kana is seriously thinking about it, and that’s still a happy thing.

“You’re laughing too… It’s a little scary.”

It seems I was laughing because I was thinking about Kana.

Actually, what does Miku think of me?

But after hearing my story, Miku’s expression softened a little.

“What do you think of me…”

“I’m just kidding. Anyway… will you listen to my story too? Actually…”

Miku suddenly said that.

I hadn’t replied yet…

Thinking about such trivial things, I decided to listen anyway.

After a while, Miku finished talking.

The content was something I already knew, such as when she was almost attacked by her vice-classroom teacher in her first year of junior high school.

But there were also things I didn’t know.

When Miku was about to be touched by a boy, she would have flashbacks of that time. She said that because of that, she would sometimes yell at them.

It seemed to happen with all men except her father and her childhood friend, Nanashima.

As a man, it’s hard for me to judge how painful it is, but it seemed to be far more traumatic than I had imagined…

“So that’s what happened… That must have been tough…”

I couldn’t figure out what the right thing to say was, and I was so surprised that I couldn’t find the words, so that’s all I could say.

“What’s that supposed to mean? Don’t you have anything else to say?”

“I’m sorry… I couldn’t think of the right words…”

“I’m kidding. But I see… It’s true that talking to you wouldn’t solve anything, but it did make me feel a little better… Now that I think about it, I couldn’t talk to my parents or teachers about it at the time… Maybe it’s not a bad idea to share my worries with someone else.”

Miku’s face looked somehow refreshed as she said that.

“I’m glad to hear that. But…you didn’t have to say that talking to me wouldn’t solve anything…”

“Hehe…that was a joke too.”

Miku smiled as she said that.

I’ve seen that smile many times when I was Nanashima in the game, but this is the first time I’ve seen it since coming to this world…

I was desperate myself, so I probably didn’t express myself well, but from the way she’s acting, maybe she’s starting to trust me a little.

I don’t know what I said to make her feel this way, but I’m glad.

Speaking of which…

“Haven’t you been joking around this whole time?”

“Shut up. Let’s just go home already.”

“…I’ll walk you home.”

We didn’t talk much after that, but she let me walk her home, so at least she doesn’t seem to hate me.

◇

Before I knew it, we had arrived at Miku’s house.

“This is my house, so that’s fine. Thank you.”

“Yeah, see you.”

“Can you wait a moment?”

She called out to me as I was about to leave.

“I’d like to know your LINE ID…”

Miku asked shyly.

“Um… Why is that?”

“You’re the one who said it’s important to talk to people… And I was the first person you talked to… So, please let me talk to you from now on too…”

I was surprised…

I just wanted Miku to be able to consult with other people, like Kana, or Saki, so she wouldn’t have to suffer, but I never expected this to happen.

But now it will be easier for me to help Miku if something happens in the future, so I’m grateful.

And it’s nice that she said it so naturally.

That said, I feel bad for Miku, who is holding her smartphone with both hands and waiting…

“I see. That’s a good trend. Keep trying, even if it’s just a little at a time… but I don’t have my smartphone with me right now.”

“Ah…”

My smartphone is currently with the police.

I submitted the voice recorder as evidence.

It seems I can pick it up tomorrow, but for now, I don’t have it.

“I plan to pick it up at the police station tomorrow morning, so is that okay?”

“Of course it’s okay! I’m not in a hurry anyway! Well, I want to take a bath, so I’m going home now!”

“Alright, see you tomorrow.”

“See you tomorrow… and thanks.”

Miku said that quietly and went home.

“Alright, I’ll go home too.”

◇

“Phew, I’m really tired today.”

I said that as I jumped into bed after taking a bath.

“Well, anyway, today was really good.”

There were a lot of unexpected things, but in the end, everything worked out well.

Miku wasn’t harmed, and I was able to turn those bastards over to the police.

What’s more, I’m really happy that Miku may have learned to rely on others in the future.

But now it’s clear.

I can’t say that I won’t take over Nanashima’s event anymore.

I can’t trust Nanashima now and leave Kana and the others in his hands. The event is no longer important.

I became friends with Kana, and I talked with Miku today. Because I’ve gotten involved with them, I don’t want to see them sad. Of course, that includes Saki too.

If Nanashima can’t protect them, then I will definitely protect them.

“Oh, by the way…”

At that moment, I remembered something.

Before handing over my smartphone to the police, I sent Kana a message saying that I wouldn’t be able to contact her for a while, but I hadn’t even checked her reply.

We’ve been in touch every night lately, so I feel a little lonely, but it can’t be helped.

As I was thinking about such things, I must have fallen asleep due to fatigue.
