Then, Aishaa leaned forward.

“Uncle…Katase san. What do you think about younger girls who are knowledgeable about subculture? And what about your annual income?”

Smack !

“Ouch. You idiot, Sou. What are you doing !?”

I gave her a flick on the forehead.

Aisha is holding her forehead with both hands.

“That’s what I should be saying. How rude are you to a stranger?”

When I apologized, he laughed and forgave me. I’m glad he’s a nice person.

At least he doesn’t seem to be short-tempered.

“Ichika san has two good friends at high school and always seems to be having fun.”

“I see. That’s good.”

There’s no need to mention the bad rumors.

Her father’s eyes seemed to be moist as he listened to Ichika’s story.

According to Ichika, her father had been the one to initiate the breakup with Yotsuba san. Does her father still have feelings for Yotsuba san? I wonder…

(It’s not something I can ask casually.)

This is a good opportunity.

Is there anything else I should ask about?

Then, Aisha spoke up again.

“Katase san, do you know what Ichika san wants?”

Aisha, nice.

He put his hand on his chin.

“Hmm. I’d like to tell you, but we don’t live together anymore. Actually, I’d like to know myself.”

That’s true.

Well, I’d better take my leave and continue shopping.

As I was about to say goodbye, he seemed to think of something and clapped his hands.

“That’s right. A bracelet. Like the pearls on your earrings? I might like something like that.”

Looking at Aisha’s earrings, there were purple pearls on them. But a pearl bracelet is like a rosary…

Would a high school girl like that?

“…Thank you for telling me.”

But it’s valuable information from a close relative.

…I should get back to shopping.

“Well, I guess I should…”

As I was about to say that, he spoke up.

“Aira kun. Ichika has been through a lot…she’s shy about love and a bit clumsy, but please be kind to her.”

“Of course !”

“Ah, Aira kun. How are your parents doing?”

“Huh? Do you know my parents?”

…Does Ichika’s father know about the relationship between Yotsuba san and my dad? My mom seemed to know about Yotsuba san too, so what’s going on?

He cleared his throat and said.

“No, if they’re doing well, that’s fine. …..Different from us, at least. Sorry for asking such a strange question.”

(…It’s a sensitive topic, so maybe I shouldn’t pry any further.)

Aisha and I thanked him for the parfait and left. Once Katase san was out of sight, Aisha took my hand.

“That man. Maybe he still likes Ichika chan’s mother? Even if he’s rich now, it must be lonely being alone.”

Maybe she’s right.

And I was a little moved by my sister’s growth in saying something so sensible.

Aisha continued.

“Maybe he makes a billion yen a year. Then he could be a NEET forever…and spend unlimited money on games…hehe.”

Aisha was grinning.

“You… Give me back the feelings I just had !”

Well, that’s how it goes.

Still… I unexpectedly ran into Ichika’s father. If I tell Ichika about this, she’ll be surprised. I have one more thing to look forward to tomorrow.

I continued shopping, but couldn’t find anything good. I returned home without much to show for it and buried my face in the bed.

(Maybe I should just tie a ribbon around my neck and say, “I’m your present.”)

Then Aisha came into the room.

“You know, you should at least knock before coming in…”

“Dear Brother, I asked Mom about pearl earrings, and she said there are still some left !”

“Huh? Those earrings are handmade?”

“Yeah. Mom made them for me.”

Mom was in the kitchen.

“Mom, Aisha said there are still some pearls left, is that true?”

“Yes, there are. What for? Do you need them?”

“I want to make a bracelet. Can you help me?”

“Sure. Is it a gift for Ichika chan? For a bracelet, you’ll need about 20 pearls.”

Saying that, my mom started rummaging around in the storage room.

“Ah, here it is.”

My mom was holding a small box in her hands. She blew the lid off the box and took out purple pearls, wire, and clasps.

“Mom, what’s this?”

“It’s a small box you used to use when you were a child.”

My mother stroked my head. It made me feel like I was a child again.

Then, I made a bracelet with my mother. At my age, I wonder if a handmade gift would be appealing.

I hope Ichika will be happy with it.
