When I Go Back in Time, My Ex-wife Is Making a Passionate Approach to Me, and I’m Having Trouble With It
“The job of a novelist is unstable, so you can’t expect a steady income.”
Saegusa was right, if I couldn’t publish a book, I would have no income. I may have underestimated that.
“But I like the way you think. I think it’s cool for a boy to dream of making a fortune.”
“I just don’t want my life to be dominated by work.”
“Yeah. It’s your life, so you want to live it to the fullest.”
Saegusa’s novels are a popular series. The fact that Saegusa is also a part-time writer means that being a novelist is probably a tough job to do on your own.
“Shiori chan, you want to publish a book because you like writing novels, don’t you?”
Yes, I love to write. I think writing is the best pastime.”
“I think that’s wonderful. When you become a novelist, writing can be a pain.”
It is true that Tachibana’s attitude toward writing cannot be imitated. I rarely write at home, because I tend to escape to anime and novels.
“I read your novel, Shiori chan. It was very good.”
“Right! I really like her novel too.”
I said, leaning forward excitedly. Saegusa-san’s eyes widened in surprise and she gave a soft smile.
“Shiori-chan, you must be so happy that someone says they love your novel so much.”
“Senpai is always like this.”
Tachibana’s cheeks flushed vermillion and she looked at me sideways and looked away.
“you’re right, Shiori chan’s charm is her writing.
Your writing is very rough and powerful. The problem, however, is the storyline. The story is always flat, so you need to write with a greater awareness of the slow and steady pace of the story.”
I was surprised that even Tachibana, who I thought was a match for me, had some issues from a professional’s point of view.
“I think you should also be more conscious of the reader’s reception of the story. If you don’t do that, you’ll be buried before anyone finds you.”
“Yes, thank you.”
No matter what kind of novel you write, if readers don’t find it, they won’t read it. It may be difficult to say that you should be conscious of reader acceptance. Recently, the number of novels that flatter the readers is increasing. I think this is inevitable if the novels are to sell well, but I don’t think Tachibana is that type of novelist.
“I think you should think about what is most important when you write. Do you want to sell as a novelist, or are you just writing for pleasure?”
“I want to sell.”
“If you want to sell, you have to think about your readers. If you can write what you want and sell it, no one will have a hard time. It may be difficult for kids like you to accept this though”
It is true that the older we become, the more rational we become. We start to think that anything that sells is good enough. However, the more a child is a child, the more strongly he or she wants to write what he or she wants to write and sell it. The strength of that feeling is that of a dreaming child. I am an adult, so I understand that this is a fleeting dream. However, Tachibana is still a child. It may be a terrible thing to ask Tachibana to accept this story.
“I still want to write the novel I like.”
“I think that’s fine. But in return, it might mean taking a longer route. If you can stick to that idea even if you don’t get results, then that might be better.”
Saegusa neither denied nor affirmed Tachibana, but simply spoke kindly to her.
Saegusa is an adult. She probably understands Tachibana’s childish insistence.
“I like Tachibana’s novels, and I think she definitely has the power to attract people. I will support the writer Tachibana.”
“Thank you, senpai …….”
After saying that, Tachibana let out a small sigh. Then she glanced at me from the side and began to speak.
“You’re the first person to ever tell me that you like my novel.”
“I see. You just didn’t show them to many people, did you?”
“I post them on the Internet, so they’re seen by a lot of people. But you are the first person to tell me that you like my novels.”
Tachibana’s novels are not for everyone. But I still have high hopes for Tachibana’s talent. I think she will become a very successful writer someday. She has the power to make me think so.
“I am supporting Tachibana. So, please continue to let me read your new works when they are created.”
“Senpai, I don’t know okay? If you say so, I will show it to you first.”
“Yay. I am the first Tachibana fan.”
“That’s right. Yes, you are the first fan.”
Tachibana giggles.
Saegusa-san looked at us and narrowed her eyes.
“You are so close. Are you sure you’re not dating?”
“We are not dating!”
Tachibana hurriedly denies it. I’m sure Tachibana doesn’t want people to misunderstand that she’s dating me.
But, I am happy for you, Shiori chan. You should take good care of your fans, right?”
“Yes, I will continue to write novels that senpai will tell me he likes.”
Tachibana is a junior, but she is my senior in novels. As a junior, I would like to continue to support her.
Then Tachibana was given specific novel advice by Saegusa. Watching from the sidelines, I couldn’t help but be taken aback by his professional viewpoint.
I wondered if Saegusa would read my novel when I finished it too.
“I’ll be waiting for your new one too.”
I vowed to finish my novel.
