Episode 27 – Surprise attack

I Got Into a Secret Relationship With a Girl Who Was Out of My League

My fever went down and I was finally able to move around, so I went to school for the first time in a while after the weekend.

My fever had gone down by Friday, so I told Nanamori, who had been taking care of me, that she didn’t need to come anymore.

She looked a little disappointed, but when I told her that I couldn’t bother her any longer, she reluctantly nodded.

I was worried about whether my lessons would be okay, but it seems that the schedule had been changed.

I had heard before that changing the schedule was difficult, but it seems it was possible after all.

Relieved by that, I spent the weekend slowly recovering.

Incidentally, on the weekend, Shinji and Akihiko came by.

I had received a message asking if they should come visit, but I had declined since Nanamori was taking care of me.

Of course, I had kept Nanamori’s visit a secret and used the excuse that I didn’t want to spread the cold, but they came on Saturday as a surprise.

I’m glad it wasn’t on a weekday when Nanamori was there.

However, when they showed off their animal-like sense of smell and said, “Something smells good” even I was taken aback.

“Oh, Subaru. You look well !”

“Yeah, thanks to you.”

“Hmm. This is also thanks to us visiting you. We’ll expect a thank-you gift.”

“No, I was almost better by the time you guys came, right? Besides, visiting me just meant reading manga, playing games, and lounging around. Don’t you understand social niceties?”

“We don’t know anything about that.”

What a bunch of smooth talkers.

Well, it wasn’t so bad to have some noise around again after a while.

It was a silly exchange, but it felt like everyday life was back to normal.

The things that had been bothering me so much before I got sick were somehow clear now.

And speaking of Nanamori…

“I told you, it’s not that !”

“Really? Are you sure?”

“It’s suspicious, isn’t it?”

She was chatting happily with Itsuka and the others.

Her expression seemed somehow different from before, with a natural softness around her mouth.

“Oh, good morning.”

When one of her classmates called out to her, she turned toward them and smiled.

For some reason, I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

“——!”

Then, our eyes met for a moment.

She smiled gently, then went back to chatting with her friends.

My heartbeat was unusually loud.

“What’s wrong, Subaru? Your face is red.”

“Did it come back? Should I give you mouth-to-mouth?”

“No, it’s not that. And why mouth-to-mouth?”

And so, while chatting with Shinji and the others about trivial things, another day passed.

◆

“…What are you doing?”

“Huh? I thought we could go home together.”

“What about your lessons?”

“Not today.”

“I see.”

After school, I walked a little way from the school and found Nanamori waiting at the park.

It was the same spot where Nanamori had been sitting on the swing with a gloomy expression about a month and a half ago.

She was sitting on the swing just like she had then, but when she saw me, she smiled and came over.

It had only been a month and a half, but it felt like a long time ago.

“By the way, where are you going?”

“Yagami kun’s house.”

“Right.”

Well, I knew that already.

So, does that mean…

There were things I couldn’t do for a while, so with a little bit of hope and tension, we started walking home together.

Nanamori seemed in a good mood, humming a tune.

“You’re in a pretty good mood today.”

“Huh? Really?”

“Yeah, you seem happier than usual.”

“Really? Take this !”

“――!?”

Without any warning, Nanamori took my hand, and I couldn’t help but flinch.

I was confused because I didn’t understand her intention.

“N-Nanamori?”

“……?”

Why did she take my hand? I called out to her with that question in mind, but she just tilted her head cutely.

What if someone saw us here…?

Thinking that, I hurriedly checked around us.

“It’s okay. There’s no one around.”

“No, but…”

“Do you really hate holding my hand that much?”

“It’s not like that…”

“Then it’s fine, right?”

What? What’s going on?

My head was filled with question marks, as if nothing had happened before.

I consciously felt the touch of her hand again.

It was soft and delicate, like a woman’s hand. Her slender fingers gripped my slightly rough palm.

I couldn’t stop worrying about whether my hands were sweating.

Even though we’d already had sex, I never thought I’d be so preoccupied with such a thing.

“Yagami kun, your hands are pretty big when I hold them like this.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yeah. More masculine than I thought.”

While feeling the texture of my hands, Nanamori says.

“More than I thought.”

“Haha, yeah. Your body is masculine too.”

“…”

She’s probably complimenting that part of me, but it feels complicated.

It feels like that’s all he’s being praised for, and if that’s the case, I’d rather be praised for something else.

“Because I was surprised when I first saw it. You have more muscle than I expected.”

“……”

“What’s wrong?”

Oh, that’s what she meant. I misunderstood.

But when someone says that it’s a bit iffy, it hurts too. Men’s hearts are also complicated.

“Of course, that part too.”

“……”

I realized I was being teased because Nanamori was smiling mischievously.

“What’s wrong?”

“No, I just didn’t expect Nanamori to say something like that.”

“It’s not a joke. I really like it.”

How should I respond to that?

Actually, if she says something like that, I’ll want to do it with Nanamori right away.

Well, we’re almost home, so if I just hold on until then…

“Oh, just so you know, we’re not doing it today.”

“Huh?”

Nanamori smiled as if she had read my mind.

“Were you expecting it?”

“Well…”

Right now, I was totally ready to go.

“I’m sorry. I was thinking of going home after walking part of the way with you.”

“Do you have something to do?”

“Yeah. Just a regular lesson.”

“…Didn’t you just say you didn’t have anything?”

“I lied.”

She didn’t seem remorseful at all.

Why did she lie just to go home together? It was only natural to wonder that.

“Oh. You were wondering why I came here if we’re not going to do it, weren’t you?”

“No, no, I wasn’t thinking that…”

She hit the nail on the head. When she pointed it out to me, I realized how despicable I was.

It really felt like he was just after sex. It wasn’t wrong, but it wasn’t that he was bothering her.

It was just that he had only ever come for that purpose before, so she was wondering about it.

“Fufu, I’m just kidding. That’s our agreement, so it’s natural to think that way.”

“No, no, if I say I wasn’t expecting it, that would be a lie…but, I was happy to go home with Nanamori.”

“Oh, really?”

This is also my true feelings.

I’m used to going home alone, but I feel that going home together like this isn’t so bad.

I was surprised when she held my hand, but somehow I felt comfortable with it.

Nanamori seemed surprised by my words and looked ahead, blushing slightly.

She tightened her grip on my hand just a little.

“So why did you want to go home together? Usually, on days when you have lessons, you go straight home, right?”

“Well…um…”

Nanamori seemed to be struggling to find the words.

And then—.

“I…wanted to go home together.”

“—”

I was caught off guard.

Seeing Nanamori blush and speak shyly, I couldn’t help but think she was adorable.
