I Liked Her First, but My Brain Was Broken, Then for Some Reason, I Became Friends With Beautiful Girls, So I’m Done My With Childhood Friends
“Hashiba Mitsuki senpai? Who is that?”
“A senior in my club……a girl in the second year…..”
Ah, that makes sense.
I remember Mizuki telling me. Apparently a junior from the badminton club spread a rumor about Kido san.
That must be that girl.
“I see…so she’s the root of all this…then we have to make her pay, right?”
Even without seeing his face, I could tell the boy had a displeased look on his face.
I could tell just by listening to their conversation. This boy has no connection to either Kido san or Mitsuki.
Even though he’s an outsider, he’s trying to judge others. I didn’t understand what kind of nerve he had to do something like that.
“You’re wrong. Mitsuki didn’t do that.
I found myself saying to them in a surprisingly calm voice.
“Huh? What is this all of a sudden? I mean, who are you?
The boy looked at me suspiciously with wrinkles between his eyebrows as I appeared out of nowhere.
“I’m Yazawa Hiro, a second year. And you are?
“What do you care about me?”
Oh, right. I’m not interested, so I don’t care.
I went up the stairs and stood on the landing where they were.
I turn my attention to the girl from the badminton club. She is Mitsuki’s junior.
“Oh, um…..I…..”
“You were scared, weren’t you?”
“Eh?”
“I heard what you said earlier. If someone tries to intimidate you, you’ll want to run away and instinctively mention your senior’s name, right?”
The girl must have been very scared when the boys confronted her, as tears began to flow from her eyes.
I was convinced by her reaction. I knew that Mitsuki was not trying to spread bad rumors about Kido san, and this girl was not trying to bring Mitsuki down because she liked it.
I look at the others. They are probably all first-year students. I looked at them and saw that they were all looking down awkwardly.
Good. It seems that it is not participating in the intimidation willingly though it seemed to be only looking.
“Who said she was intimidated?”
“Mitsuki said that the activities of the badminton club were fun and that the juniors were all good. There is not much hierarchy and everyone gets along well with each other.”
I turned my attention back to Mitsuki’s junior and spoke.
“Mitsuki doesn’t think much, and sometimes she gets into trouble because she says what she thinks right out loud.”
Mitsuki is not a flawless girl.
But that is why I liked her so much.
She was aware of her faults, reflected on them, and sometimes forgot them again…..but because of that, she was tolerant of other people’s faults.
“Still, she wouldn’t bring people down. She was a caring person, and if someone was in trouble, she’d just reach out to them, if someone was alone, she’d take care of them…..Mitsuki was that kind of person.”
Thanks to Mitsuki, I was never alone.
I’ve been able to do what I’ve been doing because of her unthinking attention to me, even though I’m a shadowy figure.
It is true that there were times when I leaned on her too much and didn’t gain the confidence to do things on my own.
That was all my fault. I can’t let Mitsuki take all the responsibility just because she’s easy to rely on.
“Yes…Mitsuki senpai was a kind person, and even though I spread rumors about Kido san, she only warned me and never blamed me… But then I tried to shift the responsibility onto her…I’m sorry.”
“Yeah. Thank you for telling me the truth.”
I offered a handkerchief to the girl who had begun to cry.
She must have been very scared after being criticized by the boys. No one would push a girl like that into a corner. Mitsuki would never do something like that.
“Did you lie to me? Liars are evil !”
“That’s enough. It’s time for you to shut up.”
“H-huh?”
After all, this was the only boy who was making a fuss here. It may seem like a big bad idea, but maybe that’s what it really is.
Did he just want to show others how he judges people? Because it must feel so good to unilaterally denounce evil.
“If all you want to do is to wield selfish justice, why don’t you do it somewhere else? No one wants that. What you’re doing is just annoying.”
“Y-you think I’m a nuisance….?’
“Now, everybody, break it up. You still have a lot of cleanup to do, don’t you? It’s a waste of time if you saty here.
The air relaxed. It was at that moment when the situation was about to settle down.
“You’re the one who’s talking nonsense !”
“Ugh !?”
The boy grabbed me by the chest and slammed my back against the wall with the force of a push.
Ouch. Before I could even think about it, the boy raised his fist.
If it were the usual me, I would have been frightened. But now, perhaps I was so tense that I had become calm, and the boy’s movements seemed to be in slow motion.
“The guy who was denouncing violence is now resorting to violence?”
“Shut up ! It’s your fault ! I was trying to do it with good intentions, and you keep on messing with me !”
The righteous boy’s logic is absurd. Well, instead of having good intentions, he’s just an annoying person. It could also be said that he just can’t back out.
Still, I’m calm even though I’m about to get punched in the face.
Perhaps it is because I was in an extreme state of shock after the Kido san incident, or perhaps my senses have become paralyzed.
If I really get hit, I will report it to the school and have them deal with it. There are more than enough witnesses, so it can’t be my crazy story.
I don’t know what I’m thinking….. Maybe I’ve had so much going on all day that my brain is being destroyed by the overload.
“That’s enough. You’re caught red-handed.”
“Wha !?”
It was Sano kun who stopped the fist that was being swung down towards me.
When did he? What good timing for him to show up. This is too cool.
“What are we gonna do with that guy, Masa?”
“Should we deal with him?”
“Idiot ! He’s gonna get the proper guidance !”
A group of boys who appeared to be friends of Sano kun’s came down the stairs and gathered around.
“They were making a lot of noise here, and that’s causing a problem. Can anyone explain what’s going on?”
Then even Sugito san appeared. She was quick to get the situation under control.
“You did a great job, Yazawa kun. We have a general idea of what’s going on, so leave the rest to us.”
“You think so? Then I think I’ll go back to class…..”
At Sano kun’s urging, I decided to go back to the classroom.
I feel like I’ve been robbed of everything… It’s fine though. It wasn’t my role in the first place.
I go up the stairs and turn the corner.
“Wha !? M-Mitsuki?”
“H-Hiro…..”
Turning the corner, there was Mitsuki.
Her face looked red…perhaps she had been listening to our conversation earlier?
