Episode 34

I Managed to Bring Down the Entire Family of That Impossible-To-Conquer S-Class Beauty, Completely Filling in Her Outer Moat

โ€œMan, I’m satisfied, satisfied.โ€

After reuniting with Nabatame-san, who’d thoroughly enjoyed the penguins, the three of us explored every corner of the aquarium to our hearts’ content.

We headed outside the exit and made our way to Chitose-san waiting in the parking lot.

โ€œNabatame-san, I’m sorry about the restaurant and buying souvenirsโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDon’t worry about it. I bought them because I wanted to.โ€

โ€œGrandpa, just because you like Watarai-kun doesn’t mean you should spoil him too much, okay?โ€

โ€œI know that much!โ€

The thing Nabatame-san bought us was a penguin keychain.

Even though he’s clumsy, he probably gave it to me thinking of me, so I gratefully accepted it.

We walked along, sharing our impressions of the aquarium in a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Before Nabatame left, he said he needed to use the restroom, so we stopped at a public toilet. There, we ended up reuniting with a certain pair.

โ€œAh, it’s the couple who fell off the seawall.โ€

It was that couple we’d first met on the seawall.

The utterly inconsiderate pair who shoved Nabatame over and ended up falling spectacularly off the embankment themselves, wailing pitifully at the dolphins.

And now, those two were right in front of us.

โ€œHuh? Who are these brats?โ€

โ€œWhoa! Isn’t that the old man and kid who were in the sea back then?!โ€

Seems they remembered us too.

After all that humiliation, it’d be weird if they forgot so quickly.

โ€œWatarai-kun, did something happen with those people?โ€

โ€œWell, various thingsโ€ฆ They were the ones who caused Nabatame san’s charm to fall off, and they’re just adults with no common sense.โ€

โ€œI seeโ€ฆ Those peopleโ€ฆโ€

She seemed to have heard the story from Nabatame san, and the moment I said that, China-san’s expression turned sour.

โ€œHonestly! If you guys hadn’t said those stupid things, we wouldn’t have fallen in the first place!โ€

โ€œNo, it had nothing to do with me and Nabatame san. It was because your fishing skills were just too terrible, right?โ€

โ€œHmph! You little bratโ€ฆ!โ€

The man, his anger plain to see, started striding closer.

But then someone appeared, patting his shoulder with a thump to halt his advance.

โ€œโ€”Did my father-in-law, daughter, and stepsonโ€ฆ do something wrong? Nah, right? My family’s all good kids, you know.โ€

โ€œChitose-san!โ€

As expected of a 190cm adult male. His mere presence was intimidating.

Chitose-san stepped forward, as if to protect us.

โ€œTch! We just took our son to the aquarium since he seemed downโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDon’t scare Fumi, big guy!โ€

Despite being that kind of couple, they seemed to genuinely pour love into their child.

But I hope they don’t just pour love without correcting mistakes. I doubt it’ll raise a decent kid.

Maybe because I thought that, the kid in question just came out of the bathroom.

โ€œAh!โ€

China and I opened our mouths in unison.

Somehow, I knew this would happen. No matter how messed up his personality is, his destiny power is real.

That’s the kind of guy Fumihiko is.

โ€œAgain?!โ€

โ€œโ€ฆFumihiko-kun.โ€

China-san beside me wore an expression of blatant disgust.

It felt like a convenient coincidence to run into Fumihiko again, but right now, his expression seemed half anger, half frustration. Did getting dumped by China-san in such an embarrassing way finally get to him?

โ€œThat guyโ€ฆ is he her grandfather? Did Mom and Dad do something to him?โ€

โ€œFumi-kun? We didn’t do anything to him!โ€

โ€œThat’s right, Fumihiko! We did have a little trouble on the embankment, but it was all his fault!!โ€

โ€œHuh!? Dammitโ€ฆ! Ah, this sucksโ€ฆ!โ€

Fumihiko’s face darkened at the couple’s words.

They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and seeing the scene before him, he felt that saying might actually be surprisingly accurate.

โ€œUm, China’s dad and grandpa. Honestly, how do you feel about meโ€ฆ?โ€

Looking awkward, Fumihiko suddenly blurted out that question.

Though he probably didn’t fully grasp the situation, Nabatame answered his question.

“I don’t know anything about you, so I don’t really have anything to say. โ€ฆBut what your parents did to us can’t be erased. I can’t be friends with those two, nor do I want anything to do with them.”

โ€œI see. And your fatherโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆ you played at the arcade with me, right? To be honest, I thought it was a shame you lacked guts.โ€

โ€œ!!โ€

Fumihiko’s face contorted into a mess, like a botched Fukuwari game.

Hearing that China’s entire family hated him, he seemed consumed by rage. Serves him right.

But the target of such self-inflicted anger always ends up being unfairly directed.

“It’s youโ€ฆ It’s all your faultโ€ฆ! That China and her family hate meโ€ฆ All of it, all of it, all of it, all of it! Watarai Nozomu, it’s all your fault!!!! !”

โ€œHuh? Me!?โ€

Fumihiko raised his fist and charged straight at me.

Nabatame and Chitose were near Fumihiko’s parents, a little distance away.

If this keeps up, Fumihiko’s gonna punch me! โ€ฆNot that it’d actually happen, though.

โ€œGwaaah!?โ€

โ€œYour moves are too predictable, Fumihiko.โ€

I deftly dodged Fumihiko’s fist, then knocked him to the ground, mounted his back, and pinned him down.

I’ve studied judo, aikido, and various other martial arts. Plus, my older sister is a one-woman army. Taking on Fumihiko is so easy it’s practically child’s playโ€”she’s still asleep.

โ€œStop it already. You’re just going to get hurt more.โ€

โ€œ~~! GAAAAAAH!!โ€

โ€œOw!?โ€

His claws dug into my arm, and Fumihiko wriggled free as my grip loosened. I think he’s finally reached the point where I should call the cops.

Just then, a voice cut through the tense air.

โ€œYouโ€ฆ you’re going too far!!โ€

โ€œChina sanโ€ฆ?โ€

Hearing her voice, Fumihiko suddenly burst out laughing.

โ€œPukukuku, ha ha, ahahahahaha! You, hurting me this badly! You just heard it, right? Hmm? w โ€˜Going too far,โ€™ she said!! A violent bastard like you deserves to be hated by my China!!โ€

โ€œHey, โ€˜violent bastardโ€™โ€ฆ That huge boomerang’s stuck right in you!โ€

โ€œShut up, piece of trash! You’re a loser now, you idiot!!โ€

Apparently, Fumihiko wants to believe that China hates me because I overreacted in self-defenseโ€ฆ

Well, I guess. Hmm. Fumihikoโ€ฆ he’s starting to look genuinely pitiful.

Then, as if checking her answer, China approached us and started worrying about me.

โ€œWatarai-kun, are you okay!? You’re bleeding from being scratchedโ€ฆ I’m sorry, it’s my faultโ€ฆ! I’m sorry you got hurt because of meโ€ฆโ€

โ€œEhโ€ฆ Huh? Wh-whyโ€ฆ?โ€

As if he’d been certain China-san would worry about him, Fumihiko wore a completely unfazed expression.

“Hope-kun, are you alright!?ใ€€How dare you lay a hand on my family!”

โ€œYouโ€ฆ you hurt my precious grandsonโ€ฆ!โ€

Chitose-san and Nabatame-san were worried and angry too, but why did they act like members of the Amagiri family?

As time passed, Fumihiko seemed to grasp the situation. His expression turned so terrible, it felt like you could hear his brain exploding in a chain reaction.

โ€œAh, wellโ€ฆ about meโ€ฆ I wasโ€ฆ pinned down by himโ€ฆโ€

โ€œHikawa-kun. I will never forgive youโ€ฆ!!โ€

It was the first time anyone had seen the unassailable S-Class beauty’s anger.

This wasn’t some cute little pouty sulk. This was full-on rage.

โ€œEh, uwaโ€ฆ No way. No way, no way, no way, no wayyyyyyy!!โ€

Fumihiko fled the scene, crying and screaming, his face pure terror.

His parents vanished after him.

What a stormy family. Truly a pain in the ass.

โ€œWatarai-kun, are you okay?โ€

โ€œYeah, I’m fine. Thanks for getting mad for me, China-san.โ€

As if deeply relieved, she slumped down and sat.

Still, she didn’t let go of my hand.

Not even in the car on the way home.

Wellโ€ฆ I was really happy, but also really embarrassedโ€ฆ

ใ€€ใ€€๏ผƒใ€€ใ€€๏ผƒใ€€ใ€€๏ผƒ

(Whyโ€ฆ why did this happenโ€ฆ?)

Fumihiko had been invited by his parents: โ€œFumi-chan seems down, let’s go to the aquarium!โ€ He never imagined he’d run into those two there too.

Truthfully, he wanted to ask China out on a date to the aquarium.

But reality was, she was on a date with Watarai, and she was directing her anger at himโ€ฆ!

โ€œThis sucksโ€ฆ!โ€

It’s all, all his fault!

The setting sun stretched my shadow long.
The parents next to me seemed to be saying something encouraging, but nothing registered with me now.

On the way home to that hellish house, as if to add insult to injury, someone called out to me.

โ€œExcuse me. Fumihiko, is that right?โ€

โ€œHuh, uhโ€ฆ the police from the other dayโ€ฆโ€

The police officer I’d encountered that day, when Watarai Nozomu, China, and her younger brother had gone out, was standing right there.

My sinking heart began pounding wildly.

A piercing gaze fixed on me, and I couldn’t move a muscle.

โ€œHey! Fumi-chan’s in the middle of something right now!โ€

โ€œYeah, yeah! Cops, get the hell outta here!!โ€

My parents barked like dogs ready to snap.

But the officer didn’t flinch at all. He stepped closer and continued speaking.

โ€œActually, Nozomuโ€ฆ Ahem. We received an anonymous tip. Someone said a trap had been set in an empty house and asked us to investigate.โ€

โ€œHuh!? What the hell does that have to do with us!? Just get the hell out of here!โ€

โ€œUpon checking nearby surveillance camerasโ€ฆโ€

Ah, ahโ€ฆ Stop.
Please, just stopโ€ฆ!

โ€œโ€”We confirmed that Fumihiko-kun over there was setting the trap.โ€

โ€œHuhโ€ฆ?โ€

โ€œAhโ€ฆโ€

The truth spilled from the police officer’s mouth, and my parents’ gazes turned to me.

Iโ€ฆ How much further down am I supposed to fall nowโ€ฆ?

โ€œFurthermore, we’ve received reports of someone engaging in stalker-like behavior. โ€ฆWould you mind accompanying us to the station?โ€

It seemsโ€ฆ I’ve gone too far to turn back now.

โ€•โ€•I don’t remember much after that.

My parents, desperately bowed their heads, begging me to bow too. They cried, the police scolded me, and everything justโ€ฆ collapsed!!

โ€œHโ€ฆ uuuhhhhhhhhhโ€ฆ AAAAAHHHHHHH!!โ€

All I could do was sob like a baby.
