I heard about what happened this morning from Miku.

“Thursday, huh… So he saw us…”

“Yeah…”

“I’m sorry. It’s my fault…”

Saki said that apologetically.

“No, that’s not it. Anyway, Kana and I often walk home together even without that, so it was bound to happen sooner or later.”

“Yeah. You’re not at fault, Saki.”

Still, it was bound to happen… She didn’t exactly say Kana and I were dating, but Kana did say she liked me, and I understood Nanashima’s attitude now.

So he really was glaring at me when we first arrived at school… Actually, he’d been paying attention to me the whole time, glaring at me repeatedly.

There’s no way I could have missed those looks.

“So, is Kana okay?”

“Yeah, I think she’ll probably be fine. She seemed really angry, but I think she just needs some time to think. I did contact her, and she said she’d be okay.”

“Kana-chan would talk to us if something was wrong, so I’m worried, but I think she’ll be fine too.”

“If you two say so, then maybe it is…”

“Still, it’s definitely worrying. Kisaragi, you should try contacting her later too.”

“Of course I plan to. So, do you think you’ll be able to resolve things with Nanashima?”

I doubt it… I thought that while asking.

“Honestly, I don’t know… he just wouldn’t listen at all.”

“Yeah… I was pretty shocked too.”

“Well, yeah. If I just stayed away from you, that’d solve it…”

““That’s not okay!!!””

If they just stayed away from me, that’d solve it, but I have no intention of doing that myself, so what should I do?

Just as I was about to say that, the two of them cut me off.

They’re both so intense.

“R-right… Well, putting that aside, what should we do from here?”

“Nothing at all. This isn’t something we can do anything about. As long as Tsubasa refuses to even try to understand Kisaragi, there’s no way this will be resolved…”

“So that’s how it is, huh…”

Yeah, that’s right. And me trying to talk to him would definitely backfire.

“I see…”

“Well, we’re thinking of trying to talk to Tsubasa ourselves, but I don’t think we can expect much.”

“I’ll try my best too, but honestly, I have no idea how it’ll turn out…”

“But then, I start worrying about Kana at home…”

They live together, so it must be uncomfortable for her.

“Yeah, but her parents are there too, so I think she’ll be okay…”

“Personally, I think we should tell Natsumi-san… since they might keep fighting at home…”

Natsumi-san is Kana’s mother, her biological mother.

“Well, that depends on Kana’s wishes, but should we do that?”

“Well, maybe we should just talk it over with Kana and decide? If it comes to that, I think I should meet her too.”

Personally, I know almost nothing about Kana’s parents.

Surprisingly, even the game didn’t drop much info about them. In fact, for some reason, there’s even less information than about Harumi-san.

Because of that, it’s hard for me to judge whether telling them is the right thing to do. I think it’s better for Kana and her family to decide.

“When the time comes, let’s all go together. It’s a pretty sensitive topic, after all…”

“Well, if living together gets too awkward, I could have Kana-chan stay at my place for a while. I’m sure it’ll be fine.”

“Yeah, my place would work too. Ultimately, it’s up to Kana. Just us talking probably won’t solve anything.”

“You’re right…”

“Anyway, if Kana-chan is okay with it, how about we all talk tonight?”

“Right. Then I’ll go ahead and create a group chat for the four of us.”

We spent the rest of lunch break chatting.

◇

That night, I was on a group call.

“Is Kana okay?”

“Yes. I’m fine. Sorry for worrying you all. I just needed to calm down and went home!”

“Are you really okay?”

“Really! Sure, it hurt a little that onii san didn’t understand, but my feelings haven’t changed. No matter what happens, I want to be with Seito-senpai!”

“Thanks, Kana. I feel the same way.”

“Yes!”

“… ”

While we were saying things like that, the other two were silent.

“What’s wrong, Miku? Saki?”

“N-no, it’s nothing…”

“W-well, me neither!”

“R-right, forget that. What are you planning to do now, Kana? you live together, after all.”

“That should probably be fine. Mom and Dad are at home, too. I don’t feel like talking to himright now, but I guess I’ll just wait and see for a while?”

“Maybe you should tell Natsumi-san?”

“I think so too, but what do you think?”

The two suggested this to Kana.

“It’s a bit embarrassing… but yeah. If you two say so, I’ll try talking to her. But only when I’m ready… After all, telling Mom about Seito-senpai isn’t exactly easy…”

“Y-yeah. You’re right, you definitely need to be ready.”

“Uh, yeah.”

“Well, it’s up to you, Kana. If you do tell her, I’d like to at least say hello myself.”

“Anyway, if anything comes up, just tell us, Kana-chan.”

“Right. If it gets awkward living in the same house, you can always come stay at my place or Saki’s? We could even let you stay for a while.”

“Yeah! Thanks, Miku-nee, Saki-nee! But I think I’ll be okay for now. My room has a lock, after all.”

“Oh, right, that’s true.”

“Things were pretty rough back then…”

“Yeah, they were…”

“Yeah, they were… No, wait. We were the ones having a hard time, not Kana, right?”

“Ehehe.”

“Um, did something happen?”

I asked, feeling vaguely curious.

“Well, it’s nothing really, but Kana and Tsubasa fought a few times over little things. When Kana was in eighth grade, they had a pretty big fight, and cleaning up after that was a huge hassle…”

“So that happened.”

“Miku-chan and I spent days trying to calm Kana-chan down…”

“I’m really sorry about that time. I was just a kid too.”

“But Tsubasa was just as much a kid as Kana. And that’s when Kana had a lock put on her door because she didn’t want Tsubasa coming in…”

“That’s right. It ended up getting resolved in about two weeks though.”

“We went through times like that too…”

Still, I was worried about Kana, but from the sound of her voice, she seems fine.

I don’t know if it’s surprising, but she sounds energetic.

“Anyway, what’s Tsubasa like at home?”

“Hmm… He was moody, just like I was back then? We didn’t talk at all during meals either. Other than that, no change? It’s exactly the same situation as when you mentioned the fight earlier.”

“But then wouldn’t your parents notice right away? Like, ‘Did you two fight or something?’”

“Yeah, you’re right… It’s probably just a matter of time. When it happens, I’ll tell them I fought with him. And once I’m mentally ready, I plan to tell them about Seito-senpai too.”

“Right. Well, for now, we’ll just keep watching the situation.”

“Yeah, that seems like the only option.”

Honestly, when it comes to Nanashima, I just can’t see this ever getting resolved. But even so, I can’t think of anything I can do about the current situation.

Kana and Nanashima are family, so it’s a really tough situation.

If I make a wrong move, worst-case scenario, the family could break apart… It’s a problem with that kind of risk, so honestly, it’s really hard for me to act.

“Since this is our first time all four of us talking on the phone, let’s stop with the gloomy stuff and talk about something fun!”

Kana said that, as if trying to change the dark mood.

“You’re right.”

“What should we talk about?”

“Hmm, well… Oh! Speaking of which, Saki, what’s the plan for your activities as Himesaki Ruruka-chan?”

Come to think of it… We’d discussed it, but the decision was up to Saki herself. I hadn’t heard her conclusion yet.

“About that… I’ve decided I want to keep going.”

“Just don’t push yourself too hard, okay? If you decide to keep going, I’ll support you, but that doesn’t mean you absolutely have to.”

“I’m so happy!! I love Himesaki Ruruka-chan!!”

“Of course I’ll support you too. If anything else comes up, tell us, okay?”

“Yeah! Thanks, everyone!”

After that, we chatted for a while longer before parting ways.
