Episode 31

Iโ€™ve Been Working My Hardest as Manager of the Girlsโ€™ Track and Field Team, but Ever Since I Retired, the Team Members Have Been Coming at Me Like Crazy!?

โ€œSen-chanโ€

When recess started, Hayase called out to me from outside the window.

โ€œWhatโ€™s up?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re having lunch with Mai-chan, right?โ€

โ€œWell, thatโ€™s what Yukimura said, anyway.โ€

โ€œAnd youโ€™re going home together after school, too, right?โ€

โ€œW-well, I guess so.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re with Moe-chan in the morning, arenโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œT-thatโ€™s just because Shiratori made me promise it without asking me.โ€

โ€œWhen do I get my turn?โ€

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆHuh?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t get any time with Sen-chan.โ€

โ€œW-well, even if you say thatโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThen recess is mine. Come see me every period.โ€

โ€œNo, even if you say โ€˜every periodโ€™โ€ฆโ€

โ€œItโ€™s not like Iโ€™m studying or anything. And Sen-chan, split your morning time 50-50 between me and Moe-chan, okay?โ€

โ€œYour demands are getting more and more excessive.โ€

โ€œBut I want to talk more. Or are you too scared of Moe-chan to say that?โ€

โ€œI-Iโ€™m not scared or anything.โ€

โ€œThen go negotiate with her.โ€

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€

To be honest, Iโ€™m scared.

If I told Shiratori, โ€œWeโ€™ll take turns walking to school with Hayase in the morning,โ€ who knows what sheโ€™d do to me.

In the worst-case scenario, I might get stabbed, or she might start scratching her neck right there on the spot.

Itโ€™s that dangerous of a move.

Itโ€™s best to assume that these guysโ€”including Hayaseโ€”are already suffering from Hinazawa Syndrome.

And at Level 4 or higher, no less.

Though Hayase still seems a little more composed.

โ€œSen-chan, canโ€™t you do it?โ€

โ€œAh, no, I never said I couldnโ€™t.โ€

โ€œFine, but if thatโ€™s the case, Iโ€™m going to tell Moe-chan everything, okay?โ€

โ€œW-what are you talking about?โ€

โ€œThe things Sen-chan doesnโ€™t want to hear. You get it?โ€

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€

Things I donโ€™t want Shirotori to tell me?

What on earth is she talking about?

Is it that I went to Hayaseโ€™s house?

Or that I almost gave in to Yukimuraโ€™s seduction?

Could it be that Hayase noticed I was secretly checking out Shiratoriโ€™s thighsโ€ฆ?

โ€œSen-chan.โ€

โ€œY-yes.โ€

โ€œDo you get it?โ€

โ€œN-no.โ€

โ€œSen-chan, your top choice for college was Waseda or Keio, right?โ€

โ€œH-how did youโ€ฆ Oh!โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t have to hide it. But is it okay if I tell Moe-chan about that?โ€

โ€œN-noโ€ฆโ€

Hayaseโ€™s threat is pretty effective.

If Shiratori found out where Iโ€™m going to college and ended up coming to the same university, that would beโ€ฆ no.

โ€œW-well, just tell her then.โ€

โ€œHuh, so youโ€™re just going to brush it off?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re the one who said it wasnโ€™t something to hide.โ€

Thatโ€™s right, itโ€™s not something worth hiding.

Itโ€™s just a hunch, but for some reason, Shiratori seemed to know that I was hoping to get into a Waseda or Keio university, and above all, getting into one of those schools is just a hope.

Just because Iโ€™ve achieved results as a manager doesnโ€™t mean Iโ€™m guaranteed to get in.

My real target is somewhere else.

Meikyo University.

Itโ€™s a top-tier university too, but since my teacher is an alumnus, my chances are higher there.

In fact, Iโ€™m currently working toward getting into that one.

So Waseda and Keio are just a cover.

What do you think, Hayase?

โ€œHmm. Well then, Iโ€™ll go tell Moe-chan about it.โ€

โ€œAh, sure, go ahead if you want.โ€

When I replied while pretending to be flustered, Hayase, for some reason, gave a happy little smile and thenโ€ฆ

โ€ฆsaid something I couldnโ€™t believe my ears.

โ€œThat Sen-chan is actually aiming for Meikyo University, too.โ€
