Episode 50 – Move into the dormitory

The Tale of Gerald Vader, the Heretic Knightโ€™s Rampage Through Another World

Once the entrance ceremony and class assignments were over, it was time for the long-awaited (?) move into the dorms.

The room I was assigned was on the fourth floor of the five-story boysโ€™ dormitory, at the very end of the hallway.

โ€œโ€ฆExcuse me.โ€

I muttered to myself as I opened the door and stepped inside.

After closing the door, I took off my shoes (in the Kingdom, itโ€™s customary to remove your shoes before entering your room) and walked along the creaky, well-worn wooden hallway.

The layout of the room consisted of a bedroom about 4.5 tatami mats in size, a study that was a bit smaller, a living room, a bathroom (and washroom), and a toilet.

The living room was fairly spaciousโ€”Iโ€™d guess about 10 tatami mats.

The bare minimum of furniture consists of a bed in the bedroom, a small desk and chair in the study, and several shelves, a table, and four chairs in the living room (likely intended for guests).

As expected, all of these items are well-wornโ€”each evoking the history of the Knight Academyโ€”but there is no need for flashiness or luxury in household goods.

The living room has large windows and an open layout, so adding a sofa or some decor would likely make it a relaxing space.

Since itโ€™s a dormitory, thereโ€™s no dining area or kitchen in the room, but thereโ€™s a large dining hall on the first floor of the dorm and a student cafeteria on the premises, so meals arenโ€™t much of a problem.

It feels a bit like a nice rental apartment for a single person.

By the way, the bathroom has a shower with hot water powered by a magical device, and the toilet is also a flush toilet powered by a magical device.

Of course, the bathroom and toilet are separate.

Naturally, youโ€™ll need to provide your own clothes and personal items, but as for linens like blankets and bed sheets, you can leave them with the dorm mother whoโ€™s always on duty on the first floor, and sheโ€™ll exchange them for clean ones, so thatโ€™s not a problem.

Itโ€™s truly a first-class setup.

Furthermoreโ€”

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆHm? Is this barrier magic?โ€

To my surprise, I found a parchment with a magic circle drawn on it at the back of a drawer in the roomโ€™s cabinet.

As I deciphered the spell, it seemed this magic circle was designed to dampen sound and vibrations.

This certainly isnโ€™t standard equipment for the room, so it was likely left behind by a previous occupant.

I wondered for a moment why something like this was here, but since this room is for Special Class students, I had a vague idea why.

Naturally, Special Class students receive lectures and training at a higher level than regular classes.

To keep up with that, they need to engage in self-training and study even after returning to their rooms.

To study, you need to block out external noise and concentrate.

Conversely, when moving around the room for training, you need to be careful not to let noise or vibrations leak out to the neighbors.

Thatโ€™s why the previous occupant must have decided that barrier magic was essential for this room.

โ€œNothing particularly suspicious hereโ€ฆ Oh, thereโ€™s the creatorโ€™s name too.โ€

Just to be safe, I examined the details of the spellโ€™s structure, but it doesnโ€™t appear to include any spells designed for surveillance or eavesdropping.

Also, I spotted a signature written in messy cursive on the edge of the parchment.

Perhaps because itโ€™s quite old, itโ€™s almost completely worn away, but I could make out โ€œRa Ti Gre O Ru.โ€

Rusty? Rafty?

Regardless of the name, I canโ€™t make out the family name at all.

In any case, it seems this room has been graced with a helpful addition by a magic-savvy predecessor from several generations ago.

Well then, I suppose Iโ€™ll gratefully make use of it.

I have no intention of holding back when it comes to avoiding a death ending.

ใ€€โ—‡

After taking a quick look around the room, I noticed the sun was starting to set.

A warm, slightly orange light streamed in through the window, reflecting off the tiny specks of dust floating in the air and making them sparkle.

I stood there blankly in the quiet living room, which wasnโ€™t yet filled with my own belongings.

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€

Come to think of itโ€ฆ ever since my memories returned on this side, I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve had much time that was truly my own.

Of course, I had my own room at both my parentsโ€™ house and the country estate, but Twina was always there, and I was under the watchful eyes of my father, Alissa, the butler, and the maids.

In that sense, this room is my own space until I leave the academy.

The moment I realized that, I felt a strange sense of liberationโ€ฆ and for some reason, I shivered.

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆI guess Iโ€™ll go pick up my things before the sun sets.โ€

My clothes and various personal items are still in my hotel room.

Iโ€™ve booked the hotel room until tomorrow just in case, but I should probably move my things over here as soon as possible.

Iโ€™ve got a change of clothes for today, after all.

Besides, Iโ€™ve promised to have dinner with Twina, Nora, and even Alissa.

Iโ€™d better get moving so Iโ€™m not late.

Come to think of it, I wonder if Twina can really take care of herselfโ€ฆ

I find myself wondering.

Naturally, sheโ€™s living in the womenโ€™s dormitory, away from me.

Since Alissa and Nora are in the same building, I suppose I could rely on them if it came down to itโ€ฆ but when she was at the villa, she was treated like a goddessโ€”literallyโ€”with every need catered to, living a life of complete comfort.

Iโ€™m worried she might be getting into troubleโ€ฆ
