Episode 27

Iโ€™ve Been Working My Hardest as Manager of the Girlsโ€™ Track and Field Team, but Ever Since I Retired, the Team Members Have Been Coming at Me Like Crazy!?

โ€œMitsuru, are you asleep yet? Hehe, you look so peaceful. Good night, Mitsuru. See you tomorrow.โ€

After I finished my porridge and closed my eyes, Yukimura said that with a satisfied look and left the room.

Even while I was pretending to be asleep, Yukimuraโ€™s mutterings were nothing but ominous.

โ€œI want to turn into a skeleton right here with Mitsuru.โ€

โ€œIf Mitsuru becomes bedridden, Iโ€™ll be the only one who can take care of him.โ€

โ€œI wonder if the moment Mitsuru dies will feel like this. Iโ€™ll probably follow him in death.โ€

Why is she only talking about me dying?

Itโ€™s scary.

โ€œโ€ฆSheโ€™s gone.โ€

I cautiously opened my eyes, confirmed Yukimura wasnโ€™t in the room, and sat up.

Then, looking at the pot that was still slightly warm, I sighed.

โ€œHaaโ€ฆ I guess Iโ€™ll just go to the bathroom and then go to sleep.โ€

I stepped out into the hallway, looked left and right to confirm once again that Yukimura wasnโ€™t there, went to the bathroom, and just as I returned to my room, I got a LINE message.

โ€˜Sen-chan, has Mai-chan gone home yet?โ€™

It was from Hayase.

The timing was just too perfect, so I looked around again.

ใ€€
Back in the room, I looked out the window too.

But the lights in the house next door were off as well.

โ€œโ€ฆI guess Iโ€™ll just reply for now.โ€

Iโ€™d accidentally marked it as read, so I couldnโ€™t very well ignore it.

โ€˜Sheโ€™s already gone home. Iโ€™m going to bed too.โ€™

Immediately, I got a reply: โ€˜Oh, okay. Thatโ€™s good then.โ€™

After that, I didnโ€™t hear from Hayase again.

โ€œโ€ฆTime to sleep.โ€

Feeling relieved, sleepiness finally washed over me.

I got into bed, closed my eyes, and soon drifted off.

โ—‡

โ€œAhhโ€ฆ I slept well.โ€

Morning.

I woke up at my usual time, got out of bed, and grabbed the doorknob, ready to leave the room.

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆHuh?โ€

But for some reasonโ€ฆ

The door wouldnโ€™t budge.

โ€œHuh? Damn it, whatโ€™s going on here?โ€

I tried turning the knob hard over and over, but it wouldnโ€™t move.

Was there some trash stuck in it or something?

โ€˜Beep-beep-beepโ€™

My phone vibrated in my pocket as I panicked.

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆHayase?โ€

For a moment, I thought, โ€œNo way.โ€

But I figured that couldnโ€™t be right, so I answered the call.

โ€œHello?โ€

โ€œSen-chan, do you know why you canโ€™t get out of your room right now?โ€

โ€œHuh? Y-yeah, so this is your doing after all.โ€

โ€œAnswer me. Come on, why do you think?โ€

โ€œH-how should I know! Howโ€™d you even get into the house?โ€

โ€œLast night. I told your mom Iโ€™d forgotten something, and she let me in, didnโ€™t she?โ€

โ€œSoโ€ฆ thatโ€™s why you locked the door?โ€

โ€œYeah. Because you lied to me, Sen-chan.โ€

โ€œLied? What are you talking about? I went to sleep right after that.โ€

โ€œNo, thatโ€™s not it.โ€

Hayase said in a cold, dismissive tone.

โ€œMai-chan was still at home.โ€.
