“Sorry to keep you waiting, everyone. Would you like some tea?”

“Yes, thank you.”

Harumi said that and placed tea in front of me and Saki, who was sitting next to me, then sat down across from us.

“I’m really sorry about that. I misunderstood. Saki was holding onto your sleeve as you walked, so I thought…”

That’s true, but the only reason was that Saki was scared.

Well, let’s not dwell on that now.

“No, it’s fine. But I have something important to talk about. Is that okay?”

There was no point in putting off the conversation, so I decided to get straight to the point.

“Something important?”

“Yes. It’s about Saki. Let me start by explaining what happened when I met Saki today…”

When I said that with a serious expression, Harumi, who had been smiling until then, also became serious.

Then I told her only what I knew from what Saki had told me.

Saki was shaking even more and had tears in her eyes.

I thought I had made the right decision to stay and explain.

Given the situation, she probably wouldn’t have been able to explain anything.

As for Harumi-san… she was pale and shaken.

“Is that really true?”

“Yes. It’s the truth.”

“So… it’s true… I’m sorry, Saki.”

As she said that, Harumi-san was about to cry too.

Saki was silent, but she started crying softly.

“Actually, both my father and I had noticed that Saki had been acting strangely lately.”

I was a little surprised by her words, but I decided to listen without interrupting.

“But you know, she was always cheerful in front of us, so we just thought she had some kind of problem… Maybe it was something a first-year high school girl couldn’t tell her parents about. And the reason I misunderstood when I saw the two of you at the front door earlier was because I realized that the problem was that she had gotten a boyfriend. She was too embarrassed to tell us about it, and I made that mistake… I should have noticed sooner… I’m sorry I couldn’t offer any advice…”

After saying that, Harumi stood up and hugged Saki.

Then the two of them apologized to each other for not being able to talk about it together, and for not noticing sooner.

The situation unfolded so quickly that I was surprised, but if that was the case, it made sense.

I had been worried because I thought Saki had something on her mind, so I might have been a bit too eager, but I also wanted to confirm my own feelings about her having a boyfriend.

I decided to wait until they calmed down so as not to interrupt them.

――A while later.

“Sorry for keeping you waiting, Seito-kun.”

“I’m sorry…”

As soon as they calmed down, they said that to me.

Saki is probably still scared, but her complexion is better than before, probably because she was able to talk about it.

Well, I’ve been through it with Miku too, but there’s a world of difference between keeping it to yourself and talking to someone about it. Mainly in terms of your mindset.

“No, I’m fine. But I think it would be better to hear more details from Saki… I’m worried too, so is it okay if I listen in?”

“I’m fine…”

“Are you okay, Seito-kun? Aren’t you worried about your family or something?”

I don’t have parents and I live alone, but Saki doesn’t know that.

Well, mentioning that now would just complicate things, so it’s fine.

“I’m fine.”

“Of course, it’s fine if you stay. Saki said it’s okay too.”

“Thank you. Then let’s get started.”

So we sat down again and began to talk seriously.

“So, is there anything else you haven’t told me yet?”

“I noticed it on Sunday. When I went out in the afternoon, there was someone following me the whole time. At first, I thought it was just a coincidence, but then I got a little scared and started walking faster to get away. But he kept following me at a constant distance, which was really scary, so I turned a corner and ran home… But on Monday and Tuesday, it was the same thing when I was coming home from school. On Wednesday and Thursday, I went home with Miku-chan and Kana-chan, and there was no sign of him then. So I thought maybe it was just my imagination, but yesterday, when I got home late because of the committee meeting, I saw him again…”

“I see. That doesn’t seem like a misunderstanding.”

“That’s right.”

“By the way, when is Saki’s father coming home?”

“I think he’ll be back in about an hour… Anyway, let’s get everything sorted out today and call the police first thing tomorrow morning, Saki.”

“Uh, yeah…”

Well, I guess that’s the best thing to do, but the police won’t do anything without any evidence.

I don’t think there’s much chance of them taking action to solve this…

“But this is a problem… Do you think the police will take action?”

“I’m not sure… I think it will be difficult for them to take action without any evidence.”

“I guess so… I tried looking into it myself, but all I found online were similar cases…”

“Of course, if they do take action, we can feel somewhat relieved, but for now, don’t go outside tomorrow, Saki.”

“Okay… But what about school the day after tomorrow…”

“I can take you in the morning, but what about the afternoon? If someone can wait at school, I might be able to pick you up by 8:00…”

Well, it’s one thing for a day or two, but it’s hard to leave work early when you don’t know how long it will take. As far as I remember, Harumi’s company is quite far away.

By the way, I think the last dismissal time at our school is 7:00 p.m., right?

“Um, I think our school’s last dismissal time was 7 p.m., right?”

Some clubs have different schedules due to club activities, but those clubs are permitted and properly managed by the club advisors, so they can operate. But we’re different since we’re part of the “go home club.”

“That’s true…”

“That’s right…”

If we explain it to the school, they might understand and give us permission until 8 PM, but we don’t know how long it will take, and the people in charge would have to stay an extra hour, which would be difficult for Saki.

She can’t help but feel bad about causing trouble all the time. I don’t know if those people feel bothered by it, but I think Saki probably does.

“Um, then I’ll walk you home.”

“But… that’s not right…”

Saki looked really apologetic, but Harumi said,

“Um, are you sure it’s okay, Seito-kun?”

“I don’t have a problem with it.”

I’ve decided to stop thinking about Nanashima, and if I explain it to Kana later, she’ll definitely understand. In fact, Kana will be happier if I choose that option.

I know that Kana loves Saki very much.

Then Harumi bowed her head and said.

“Then, please take care of her. I can trust you, Seito-kun… Saki seems to trust you too… Is that okay with you, Saki?”

“U, um… thank you, Kisaragi-kun.”

“Then we’ll do that starting Monday.”

“Thank you so much, Seito-kun. I’m going to call my father, so I’ll step outside for a moment.”

“I understand.”

Saying that, Harumi-san took her smartphone and went out into the hallway.

“Are you really okay with that?”

“Okay with what? The conversation after school?”

“Yeah. Because Kana-chan…”

I understand what you mean, but if I say that it’s no good because Kana is here, she’ll be sad.

“I’ll tell Kana tonight, so it’ll be fine. I think she’ll agree with me if she hears it.”

“Um, Kisaragi-kun. This is my fault, so if it’s okay, can I talk to her about it? I want to tell Miku-chan too…”

Did she understand that by consulting her mother, she would cause more worry later if she didn’t consult her? She kept apologizing while crying, saying she was sorry for not being able to consult her earlier.

“Well, if both of them know about it, they can help us in various ways, so if that’s possible, it might be better.”

“Yeah. Thank you so much, Kisaragi-kun… Because you were there, I was able to consult my mother…”

“That’s okay. But you should know that if you don’t want to cause worry, you absolutely must consult with them.”

“Yeah…”

Given this situation, I think it’ll be okay.

As for what happens next, I need to be careful.

If something happens to Saki, I’ll regret it, and I won’t be able to face Kana, Miku, or Harumi-san.

—Then Harumi-san arrived right away.

I was just about to leave, so it was perfect timing.

Her father will be home soon, and I think it’s better for the family to discuss this among themselves.

“Well, I’ll be heading home now. If there’s anything else, please let me know. I’ve exchanged contact information with Saki-san.”

“I’ll do that. If you’re going home, I’ll walk you there, Seito-kun.”

“No, it’s not that far from my house, so I’ll be fine. I think my father will be coming home soon, and more importantly, please stay with Saki-san at home for now. I think it might be a little scary for her to go out.”

“You’re right. Thank you so much, Seito-kun.”

I don’t even know how many times I’ve been thanked… Well, from Harumi-san’s perspective, it’s probably normal.

“No, then see you on Monday.”

“Okay, thank you. Bye.”

And so I left the Hiiragi household.

So many incorrect pronouns, man. I’ve known this for a while, but you badly need an editor, lol.
