Episode 53 – Homeroom

The Tale of Gerald Vader, the Heretic Knightโ€™s Rampage Through Another World

โ€œWell, since I introduced myself yesterday, Iโ€™ll keep this brief. Iโ€™ll be serving as the homeroom teacher for the Special Class. My name isโ€ฆ umโ€ฆ Christoph. I look forward to working with you all.โ€

Standing at the front of the classroom, Christoph gave a slight bow.

Although we had already been briefed during yesterdayโ€™s orientation, it was revealed that heโ€”the vice principalโ€”would be the homeroom teacher for the Special Class.

Itโ€™s unusual for the vice principal to serve as homeroom teacher in a regular class, which just goes to show how special this class is.

That said, even though heโ€™s our homeroom teacher, his main job is being vice principal.

Since the vice principalโ€™s role is to oversee the instructors, he naturally doesnโ€™t teach any classes himself.

So he wonโ€™t be lecturing us or doing anything like that.

The only time heโ€™s with us is during this morning homeroom, so itโ€™s practically an honorary position.

โ€œWell, enough about me.โ€

After writing his name on the blackboard behind him, Vice Principal Christoph turned back to face us.

Then he looked around the classroomโ€”that is, at the seven of us gathered here.

โ€œI imagine most of you here probably donโ€™t know each other. However, from now on, at least for this year, weโ€™ll be seeing each other every day. The academy hopes that you will all become good friends, transcending your status and positions. To do that, donโ€™t you think we first need to know each otherโ€™s names?โ€

It was a roundabout way of putting it, but in short, it was time for self-introductions.

โ€œWell then, shall I go first?โ€

The first to speak up and stand was Veronica, the valedictorian.

With a haughty, composed expression and her spiky hair swaying from both sides of her head, she introduced herself clearly and confidently.

โ€œI am Veronica El Rosenheim. My elective courses are Political Science and Barrier Magic. Iโ€™d be delighted to get to know anyone whoโ€™s taking either of those classes with me.โ€

With that, she smoothly sat back down.

Concise and to the point.

She likely didnโ€™t mention her background because she assumed that no noble or knight in this country would be unaware of the historic House of Rosenheim.

Or perhaps she deliberately omitted it, keeping Professor Christophโ€™s intentions in mind.

In any case, it was a self-introduction that struck the perfect balance.

โ€œAhโ€ฆ Well then, next. Who shall it be?โ€

Veronicaโ€™s introduction had ended so abruptly that Professor Christophโ€™s reaction was slightly delayed.

โ€œI suppose this is based on seating order, then?โ€

This time, the handsome young man sitting behind Veronica stood up.

He swept his purplish hair back and scanned the entire classroom.

โ€œIโ€™m Joshua Brunet. You might know me as a knight from a family that serves Roland, the Margrave who guards the northern borders of the kingdom. Ah, my electives are Geography and Advanced Swordsmanship. Well, Iโ€™d be happy if we could get along.โ€

Oh, so this guy just casually mentions his background and family lineage.

Well, I guess thatโ€™s normal.

Besides, the Margrave of Roland in the north is a martial noble.

Since heโ€™s repelled the demon armies led by the Demon King that invaded the border several times, I canโ€™t say I blame him for wanting to boast as a son of the Brunet family, his vassals.

After that, the self-introductions continued one by one.

Nora and I wrapped ours up quickly, but Klausโ€”perhaps overwhelmed by the class atmosphereโ€”spoke haltingly about his background and elective courses.

That said, his attitude hasnโ€™t changed all that much from the โ€œmain story,โ€ and heโ€™ll grow through his interactions with the others from here on outโ€ฆ but watching him up close is nerve-wracking.

It feels just like watching an unreliable younger brother.

Well, itโ€™ll be tough until his divine protection awakens, but I hope he does his best.

Come to think of it, it seems the members of the Special Class are slightly different from those in the โ€œmain story.โ€

Specifically, the other two were people I didnโ€™t remember.

One of them is Lucas, the so-called โ€œBullfighter.โ€

I never would have guessed he was in the Special Class.

Naturally, this isnโ€™t the kind of class you can get into just by having a tough-looking face and broad shoulders.

Mind, technique, bodyโ€”and, incidentally, family background.

You donโ€™t have to be top-class in all of them, but if any one of them is significantly lacking, you wonโ€™t even make it onto the selection list.

Which meansโ€ฆ could it beโ€ฆ?

I was stunned.

Could it be that he actually did pretty well on the written exam tooโ€ฆ?

What the hell.

He wasnโ€™t a muscle-brained bruteโ€”he was the brilliant type.

โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ!โ€

I was ashamed of my own ignorance.

I had no choice but to be ashamedโ€ฆ!

Foolishly, I had judged him by his appearance.

Yeah.

If thereโ€™s anything I donโ€™t understand in future exams, Iโ€™ll go ask him.

Andโ€ฆ thereโ€™s one more person.

โ€œEliza Lindew. My electives are Sacred Magic and Barrier Magic. Nice to meet you!โ€

โ€œYes!โ€ she called out, raising her hand energetically and beaming with a huge smile. She was, by any measure, a girl of about ten years old.

A girl with long red hair tied back in a ponytailโ€”a very cute girl, though her eyes had a slightly mischievous lookโ€ฆ no, a young girl.

I am well aware thatโ€”surely, no, undoubtedlyโ€”through some form of magic, she will age about twenty years and become a stunningly glamorous beauty, almost to the point of being overwhelming.

(Why on earth is the Commander of the Kingdomโ€™s Cathedral Knights hereโ€ฆ!!)

I buried my face in the desk.

To be honest, she is also one of the main heroines.

However, Klaus wonโ€™t meet her until several years from now.

In the story, theyโ€™ll face each other on the battlefield midway through the plot, after the Knight Academy arc endsโ€ฆ

But never mind that.

She is a heroine, after all.

The problem is her personality.

To put it simply, she has a terrible personality. And sheโ€™s cold-blooded and ruthless.

Despite being a member of the Holy Knights, a group of clergy, she kills anyone who defies her on the spot, without question.

She doesnโ€™t care if theyโ€™re demons or humans.

Technically, her true form is that of a beautiful woman in her early 30sโ€ฆ but the reason she usually uses magic to transform into a little girl is that enemies underestimate her, thinking sheโ€™s โ€œeasy to deal withโ€ because of her appearance.

Sheโ€™s a character with a rather twisted mindset who takes pleasure in crushing those who underestimate her with all her might.

Well, when it comes to the protagonist, Klaus, sheโ€™s constantly all over him (albeit after going through various stages), so sheโ€™s a tsundere character in the true sense of the wordโ€ฆ but naturally, sheโ€™s extremely harsh toward the other characters.

Let alone Gerald.

What Iโ€™m trying to say is, thereโ€™s a possibility that another death ending for me has been added here.

Foreign objects in the food? Absolutely not.

โ€œUmโ€ฆ let me clarify. Eliza has some rather special circumstances. Given the extremely strong request from the โ€˜Churchโ€™ she belongs to, and considering her own outstanding academic recordโ€”โ€

Vice Principal Christoph was trying to defend Eliza, but his explanation no longer registered in my mind.

Damn it, Iโ€™m not going to give up on a survival ending just because of this!!!!
